Controls Engineer - Hardware Designer

Job Description

Responsibilities Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, control panel layouts, and BOMs. Support control system architecture and hardware design for industrial machinery from initial design through fabrication and factory acceptance testing. Participate in job kickoff, design reviews, and customer meetings as needed. Coordinate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to ensure designs meet specifications. Support troubleshooting and resolution of electrical and control system issues during build, testing, and commissioning. Collaborate with manufacturing and service teams to support equipment build, installation, and commissioning. Maintain project schedules and communicate status, risks, and design decisions to stakeholders. Collaborate with controls engineers across divisions to develop and maintain engineering standards. Interface with customers and vendors as required. Occasional travel for customer and vendor visits (<10%). Awareness of

Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline OR 2-year degree with 2+ years of relevant controls engineering experience OR 5+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree Experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or automated machinery design. Proficiency with AutoCAD (AutoCAD Electrical preferred). Knowledge of industrial control panel design, component selection, and electrical safety practices. Familiarity with UL508A and NFPA 79 standards. Experience in a manufacturing or capital equipment environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong analytical skills with attention to detail. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Experience in OEM machinery, converting, or wire and cable industry environments. Understanding of industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP preferred). Working knowledge of PLC-based control systems (Rockwell and Siemens). Familiarity with AC drive systems (e.g., Yaskawa, Allen-Bradley PowerFlex). Proven ability to work as part of a cross-functional OEM engineering team (mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and service). Self-starter with the ability to manage changing requirements and develop technical solutions independently.
