Job Description
Engineering Technician — Hardware Test & Production (Contract) Our client, an electronic hardware manufacturer in Knoxville, TN, is hiring an Engineering Technician to test, configure, calibrate, and upgrade product before it ships. You'll work from engineering procedures, schematics, and written work instructions, run the test sequence, and document results against the quality standard — the last set of hands and eyes on the product before a customer sees it. This is a shop-floor role in a manufacturing environment, not a lab or an engineering desk. When test volume is heavy, testing is the whole day. When it isn't, you'll be on the production side — picking, packing, receiving, and general assembly support. If you want a single defined task and nothing else, this isn't that seat; if you'd rather stay busy and be useful across a small team, it's a good fit. You don't need a degree to be considered — hands-on time with hardware counts for more here than the credential. What you do need is comfort with basic bench test equipment and enough attention to detail that your test records hold up. Cisco hardware or networking exposure is a plus and is genuinely useful in this environment, but it is not required and its absence will not knock you out. Pay and schedule
Pay:
$27.00 per hour
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, with occasional overtime
Location:
on-site in Knoxville, TN — this role is not remote
Duration:
6-month contract, mid-September 2026 through mid-March 2027 A typical day Pick up the day's test queue, set up and configure units against the engineering procedure, run the test sequence, calibrate and apply upgrades as the work instruction calls for, and record results as you go. Troubleshoot the units that don't pass. When the queue is light, move over to the production side to help pick, pack, receive, and assemble, and finish the shift with your bench and work area squared away. What you'll do Set up, configure, test, calibrate, and upgrade hardware products following engineering procedures and work instructions Execute product testing against engineering test procedures, schematics, and quality standards Document and record test results accurately to quality requirements Troubleshoot basic hardware and system issues as they come up Support production activities including assembly, picking, packing, shipping, and receiving Keep a clean, organized, and safe work area Pitch in across other operational areas as the team's priorities shift What you need Hands-on experience in a manufacturing, production, or hardware testing environment Familiarity with bench test equipment — oscilloscopes, voltmeters, signal generators Able to read and work from engineering procedures, schematics, and written work instructions Strong attention to detail — test records are a quality document, not a formality Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Reliable and accountable — this is a small team on a fixed daily schedule Able to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment, on-site five days a week Nice to have Associate degree in Engineering Technology or a related field Cisco hardware or networking knowledge Experience with calibration or hardware upgrade procedures Prior warehouse, shipping/receiving, or general assembly experience This is a 6-month contract starting mid-September, on a consistent day shift with some overtime as volume requires. We're moving quickly on this one — apply now to be considered.
