We are seeking a Systematic Trading Technologist for a full-time position in Champaign, Illinois. In this role, you will build and maintain the infrastructure for large-scale systematic equities trading, including data flow, backtesting frameworks, signal generation pipelines, execution systems, and operational tooling. You will design for resilience and supportability, ensuring systems remain reliable in production while providing live support to drive issues to root cause. This is an opportunity to work directly with the investment team, translating their requirements into scalable, well-engineered solutions while developing deep familiarity with internal tools, systems, and teams across the organization. Responsibilities Build and maintain infrastructure for large-scale systematic equities trading, including data flow, backtesting frameworks, signal generation pipelines, model and result registries, execution, and post-trade flows. Maintain and extend safe, low-touch execution systems capable of trading large volumes with minimal manual intervention, integrating with OMS, EMS, and broker algorithms. Design for resilience and supportability by building alerting, observability, and operational runbooks alongside infrastructure; provide live production support to drive issues to root cause. Perform performance engineering for data and compute infrastructure—storage, caching, and data-transfer systems to support large-scale backtesting and live trading, with ambition to scale to intraday signal generation. Maintain the development, research, and machine-learning platform, from IDE access and version control through notebooks, compute environments, and deployment pipelines researchers and engineers use to take strategies from prototype to production. Work directly with the investment team to translate requirements into scalable tooling, delivering a mix of short-term tooling and long-term infrastructure projects in step with evolving priorities. Build deep familiarity with internal tools, teams, and systems across the organization; leverage existing firmwide technology, coordinate cross-team requests, and demonstrate initiative in finding solutions that keep the technical build strategic. Qualifications Required Strong proficiency in Python and SQL. Comfortable working with modern data-processing tools (Polars, pandas, numpy) and orchestration/scheduling frameworks (Airflow or equivalent).
Strong grounding in production engineering:
CI/CD, containerized deployment (Kubernetes/Docker), monitoring, and alerting. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication skills; able to work fluidly with the investment team, traders, and firmwide technology teams. Ownership mindset and enthusiasm for programming, with a proactive approach to driving improvements in a dynamic, integrated team. A degree in Computer Science, engineering, or a related field. Preferred 4+ years of software engineering experience; hands-on work supporting quantitative research or systematic trading in production environments. Familiarity with shared codebases and modern engineering practices (CI/CD, code review, type checking, testing). Familiarity with cloud/containerized compute environments and distributed workloads. Proven interest in financial markets and automated trading.
