Outside Plant Technician (OSP)

Job Description

Outside Plant Technician (OSP) The Outside Plant Technician (OSP) is responsible for all aspects of construction, activation, maintenance, and repair of the company's copper, coaxial (HFC), and fiber optic (GPON, RFOG, XGS-PON) network infrastructure. This role supports system reliability through troubleshooting, performance testing, preventative maintenance, and emergency restoration across aerial and underground facilities. The OSP Technician works collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, and utilities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality network operations. This position reports directly to the Outside Plant Supervisor. Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to: Perform construction, activation, and upgrades for copper, coaxial (HFC), and fiber optic (FTTH, GPON, RFOG, XGS-PON) networks. Maintain and repair aerial and underground network infrastructure to ensure system reliability. Conduct preventative maintenance including sweep, balance, and performance validation. Troubleshoot network issues using OTDR, TDR, and signal analysis tools. Splice coaxial and fiber optic cables. Install and maintain residential and commercial service drops. Respond to outages and perform emergency restoration due to damage or failures. Complete light construction including pole transfers, removals, and basic clearing. Monitor and document network performance for maintenance and compliance. Coordinate with utilities, contractors, and internal teams on projects and repairs. Maintain accurate records of work, materials, and network conditions. Support team members, training efforts, and cross-functional operations. Participate in after-hours response. Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements Include:

Physically able to perform the above-mentioned duties. Safely carry and set-up a 28ft -60lb ladder. Trained and safely able to climb a pole to a height of 40 ft. Trained and safely able to operate heavier duty bucket trucks. Understanding of safe set-up and work-zones within and outside of Public Rights of Way. Able to work extended periods in all-weather, outdoor environments. Good customer service qualities. Positive / self-motivating working attitude. Valid driver's license which meets the MTC insurance requirements (CDL license preferred). Comply with the Drug Free Workforce Act. Evening and Weekend "On-Call" schedules. Weekend work schedule and overtime may be required. Comply with

$24.00 - $30.00 per hour
