Our Prototype Team partners with engineers and technicians across various organizations to produce complex and critical machined and fabricated components to meet Tesla's most aggressive program objectives. Through close collaboration with a world-class team of machinists, fabricators, engineers, and leadership, we enhance the design of products from concept through production by bringing intangible ideas to the physical world. Programs we support range widely from concept and pre-production vehicles, energy systems, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other future-facing initiatives. As a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer on the Prototype Team, you will leverage your knowledge and experience to lead the development of key processes around our CNC machine shop. What You'll Do Lead the development and expansion of in-house machining capabilities through experience, observation, research, sourcing, testing, and implementation Identify, implement, and optimize off-shelf and custom hardware and software solutions to boost efficacy of our operations ranging from consumables to CapEx Liaise between design engineers and CNC Programmers on complex DFM and quality challenges Drive the development of physical and digital tool libraries by testing and evaluating new tooling against current tooling Efficiently program, set up, and run a variety of multi-axis CNC mills and lathes (Mikron, Hermle, DMG, Matsuura, Grob, Haas) to produce deliverable components during demand spikes Proactively track, document, and provide direct feedback with clear communication to management, engineers, programmers, and machinists on design, process, project status and outcomes Personally train and organize 3rd party training of machinists and programmers on both fundamental and newly implemented processes Leverage AI tools to improve shop workflows and processes What You'll Bring Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience Proficiency in multi-axis CNC mill and lathe programming (hyperMILL and Esprit Edge preferred) Deep knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings, documents, and GD&T Ability to learn, operate, and optimize multiple CNC controls (Heidenhain, Fanuc, Siemens, Haas) Familiarity with various automation systems Experience developing complex probing routines and macro programming Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with ability to develop and present complex technical information to a diverse audience Positive energy and attitude, with a passion for prototyping and machining Excellent mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, analytical skills, and time management Ability to work efficiently and effectively both independently and as a team with minimal supervision Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $130,400 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
