Job Overview The Yeh Laboratory in the Department of Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz, invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our interdisciplinary research team. Our research integrates artificial intelligence, computational protein design, and experimental protein engineering to develop novel proteins and molecular technologies for biological research, therapeutics, and diagnostics. Current research directions include de novo protein design, engineered luminescence systems, genetically encoded biosensors, molecular imaging, and translational diagnostic platforms. The successful candidate will have opportunities to lead independent research projects spanning computational design, molecular engineering, cellular and animal studies, and translational applications. We seek researchers who are intellectually curious, self-motivated, disciplined, willingness to learn, and committed to scientific excellence. Responsibilities (a combination of the followings) Design and engineer novel proteins using computational and experimental approaches. Perform molecular cloning, recombinant protein expression, purification, and biochemical characterization. Develop and optimize bioassays to evaluate protein functionality and performance. Demonstrate and validate engineered proteins in mammalian cell culture and in vivo animal models. Develop molecular sensing technologies and diagnostic assays, including lateral flow-based, ELISA-type, thermocycler-based approaches. Explore translational applications of engineered proteins in therapeutics, bioimaging, and diagnostics. Independently design experiments, analyze results, troubleshoot technical challenges, and communicate scientific findings. Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and contribute to collaborative research projects. Qualifications PhD in Bioengineering, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline, completed by the appointment start date. Hands-on experience in molecular cloning, recombinant protein expression and purification, and biochemical or functional bioassays. Strong experimental design, data analysis, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Strong scientific communication and technical writing skills. A strong publication record demonstrating scientific productivity and research independence. Preferred Qualifications (one of these) Experience with computational protein design, structural biology, or AI-assisted protein engineering. Experience in developing or characterizing novel animal models. Expertise in in vivo molecular imaging, particularly bioluminescence or fluorescence imaging. Expertise in developing, optimizing, or fabricating fast diagnostic devices. Experience in exosome-related studies or photodynamic therapy Application Instructions Interested applicants should submit:
