Approximately 30-45% We're partnering with a growing engineering and industrial automation organization to hire a Project Engineer with a strong focus on machine safety, controls, and automated manufacturing systems . This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys working across the full project lifecycle, from system design and programming through installation, startup, validation, and client delivery. What You'll Be Doing Develop functional design specifications, control narratives, and system architecture for industrial automation projects. Program, modify, test, document, and troubleshoot PLC/PAC and HMI systems . Design automation architectures involving PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, servers, drives, and related control equipment. Support and lead system installation, commissioning, startup, FAT/SAT , and validation activities. Perform machine safety risk assessments, safety system reviews, and machine safeguarding evaluations . Conduct safety PLC reviews, safety-distance calculations, and functional safety analysis. Develop functional requirements for machine guarding and safety control systems. Lead technical project activities while coordinating with engineers, vendors, contractors, operators, maintenance teams, and client stakeholders. Review electrical and controls designs for technical accuracy, code compliance, and alignment with project requirements. Support project scope, schedules, budgets, procurement, and overall project delivery. Mentor junior engineering resources and provide technical guidance throughout project execution. Must-Have Qualifications We are primarily looking for engineers who have designed and delivered industrial automation systems , rather than candidates whose experience has been exclusively from an owner/end-user perspective.

Successful candidates should bring:

3+ years of engineering experience within industrial automation, manufacturing machinery, controls, or a related environment. Hands-on experience with the design and delivery of engineered systems or machinery . Experience working on systems that progress through FAT and/or SAT as part of the project lifecycle. Background with an OEM, systems integrator, engineering services organization, machine builder, or similar project-driven environment is strongly preferred. Foundational understanding of machine safety principles, safeguarding, and safety controls . Ability to work directly with customers and support activities in manufacturing or industrial facilities. Strong written communication skills and attention to technical detail. Strongly Preferred Experience Candidates will stand out if they have hands-on experience with several of the following: Machinery risk assessments Machine safeguarding and safety circuit design Safety PLCs, safety relays, controllers, and safety

analysis or similar functional safety calculation tools Machine safety validation Safety-distance calculations Functional safety analysis Industrial machinery safety standards Customer-facing field engineering Installation, commissioning, startup, FAT, or SAT activities Developing functional requirements for guarding and safety-control systems Technical Background Strong hands-on PLC programming experience, ideally with Rockwell Automation ControlLogix and CompactLogix platforms. Experience programming and troubleshooting HMIs and industrial control systems. Familiarity with industrial networks such as EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, and serial communications . Understanding of industrial electrical systems, including motors, VFDs, instrumentation, control panels, motor control, sensors, and related automation hardware. Ability to read and develop electrical schematics, control panel layouts, bills of material, installation drawings, and related engineering documentation. Working knowledge of machine safety regulations and standards, including applicable OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, RIA, ISO, and EN standards . Familiarity with standards such as

ISO 13849, ISO 12100, ISO 13855

, and other applicable machine-safety requirements. Education Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering , or a related engineering discipline is preferred. What Will Differentiate You While an existing functional or machine-safety certification is not required, candidates with the following will be especially competitive: TÜV Functional Safety Engineer, CMSE, or comparable machine-safety certification Deep hands-on experience using SISTEMA Previous experience working specifically as a Machine Safety Engineer, Functional Safety Engineer, or Safety Specialist Strong understanding and practical application of relevant ISO, ANSI, NFPA, OSHA, and other machinery safety standards Significant experience conducting machinery risk assessments and validating safety systems The Right Personality for This Role Technical knowledge is only part of the equation. This position requires someone who genuinely enjoys the detail-oriented nature of machine safety, compliance, and risk mitigation .

Be naturally detail-oriented, methodical, and comfortable working within technical standards and regulations . Enjoy investigating safety concerns and identifying practical solutions. Communicate technical findings clearly in writing. Be comfortable interviewing operators, maintenance personnel, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand how machinery is actually being used. Have the confidence to identify and challenge unsafe practices while remaining professional, diplomatic, and solutions-oriented . Work effectively with customers in the field and build credibility without needing to be highly extroverted. Balance technical rigor with strong judgment and customer awareness. Travel This position requires regular travel to manufacturing and client locations, averaging approximately 30-45% .
