Job Description

Miller Broach Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior CNC Manufacturing Engineer to lead CNC programming, process development, and continuous improvement across our machining operations. We are looking for a highly skilled, hands-on engineer who understands CNC machining from initial programming and tooling selection through setup, prove-out, and full production. This position requires someone who can solve complex machining problems, develop efficient manufacturing processes, and provide technical leadership to our CNC engineering and production teams. Our operations include high-volume production machining, precision milling and turning, multi-axis machining, aluminum extrusion machining, and complex customer programs across the automotive, defense, and industrial markets. This is not a desk-only engineering position. We need someone comfortable working directly on the shop floor, developing processes, troubleshooting machines, and helping our team succeed. Key Responsibilities Lead CNC manufacturing engineering activities across multiple machining departments. Develop, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis machining centers and CNC turning equipment. Utilize Mastercam and other CNC programming software to develop efficient machining processes. Design and develop machining strategies, tooling packages, fixtures, and workholding solutions. Oversee new job setups, program prove-outs, first-piece approvals, and production launches. Troubleshoot machining issues involving tooling, programming, dimensional accuracy, surface finishes, cycle times, and equipment performance. Identify opportunities to reduce cycle times, improve tool life, minimize scrap, and increase machine utilization. Provide technical direction and mentoring to CNC Manufacturing Engineers, programmers, setup technicians, and machinists. Work closely with production, quality, maintenance, and management to resolve manufacturing challenges. Review customer prints, GD&T requirements, and manufacturing specifications to determine appropriate machining methods. Support new equipment installations, machine commissioning, and process development. Establish and maintain standardized setup procedures, tooling documentation, and CNC programming practices. Assist with equipment selection, tooling investments, automation opportunities, and capital improvement projects. Support engineering activities related to PPAP, process capability, and
ISO 9001
quality requirements. Take ownership of difficult machining projects and ensure processes are production-ready, repeatable, and efficient. Required Qualifications 7+ years of CNC machining, programming, or manufacturing engineering experience. Extensive hands-on experience with CNC milling and/or turning operations. Strong proficiency in Mastercam or comparable CAD/CAM software. Experience developing machining processes from engineering drawings through full production. Strong knowledge of cutting tools, feeds and speeds, workholding, fixture design, and machining strategies. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T, and dimensional tolerances. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting CNC machining problems and improving manufacturing processes. Experience with Fanuc, Haas, Okuma, or similar CNC controls. Ability to independently program, set up, and prove out CNC machining operations. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Makino, Doosan/DN Solutions, Okuma, Brother, Haas, or similar CNC equipment. Advanced experience with 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machining. Experience with high-volume production machining and automated manufacturing environments. Knowledge of aluminum machining, steel machining, and precision manufacturing. Experience designing fixtures and workholding solutions. Familiarity with PPAP, process capability studies, and automotive manufacturing requirements. Previous experience leading or mentoring CNC programmers, engineers, and machinists. Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical degree preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered. What We're Looking For We want someone who takes ownership, understands what it takes to keep a machine making good parts, and knows how to turn a challenging print into a reliable production process. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable programming at a computer, troubleshooting at a CNC machine, and leading other engineers through a difficult project. We value practical manufacturing experience, strong technical ability, accountability, and the willingness to get involved on the shop floor. Why Join Miller Broach? Miller Broach is an established Michigan manufacturing company with a diverse range of CNC machining capabilities, equipment, and customer programs. This position offers the opportunity to: Play a key technical leadership role within our CNC manufacturing operations. Work with a wide variety of modern CNC machining equipment and technologies. Lead challenging new machining projects from concept through production. Help develop and strengthen our CNC engineering and manufacturing teams. Have a direct impact on manufacturing efficiency, quality, and future growth.
