Non-Exempt Position Overview:
The Repair Engineer Designer is responsible for the reverse engineering, evaluation, and redesign of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder components to support repair operations. This role utilizes SolidWorks and other engineering tools to develop accurate, production-ready drawings that meet company tolerances and customer specifications. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to recommend cost-effective, technically sound repair solutions that align with company quality and profitability objectives.
Essential Duties:
(Additional duties may be assigned as required.) Perform reverse engineering of custom hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders and related components. Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD. Apply company-documented tolerances and vendor-supplied dimensional data to ensure accuracy and manufacturability. Review job documentation and standard folders to ensure compliance with specifications. Evaluate component wear, damage, and failure modes to determine appropriate repair methods. Recommend repair processes that optimize cost, quality, and turnaround time. Approve and formally release drawings for production at assigned company locations. Collaborate with repair technicians, machinists, and operations personnel to support production needs. Operate material handling equipment as needed to move components and assemblies. Ensure adherence to company safety standards and quality procedures.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Excel, Internet Explorer, Made2Manage, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Outlook.
Education/Experience:
Associate or Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Design, or related technical field and/or two to four years of related engineering design or repair experience, or equivalent combination of education and hands-on technical experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:
Proficiency in SolidWorks (required). Working knowledge of AutoCAD. Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Made2Manage or similar). Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook). Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills. Understanding of machining processes and shop practices is preferred. Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems is preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to wear safety glasses and hard sole/close toed shoes with a low heel when walking through the manufacturing shop and/or repair shop whether as part of performing their job or just passing through. In addition, long hair must be tied back when around hazards of flame, machinery, or equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
