Tool Design Engineer

Job Description

Summary:
A Tool Design Engineer designs, develops, and maintains manufacturing tools like jigs, dies, molds, and fixtures, using SolidWorks software to create detailed drawings, collaborating with production teams, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring tools meet specs for efficiency and quality. This position will need skills in GD&T, problem-solving, and material science.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimate tooling and ability to press or form partsAble to modify, design & develop tool designs for the manufacturing processProvide pressing department with setup specificationsTroubleshoot tooling and pressing problemsAssist die shop with CNC programming Collaborate with production, qualify and other engineering team members to define and resolve issues with design requirements.

Able to prepare technical drawings, blueprints, specifications and necessary maintenance procedures to ensure viable production is met.

Able to evaluate and select materials, components, and supplies for tooling needsOversee testing process, including the installation, setup, and testing of tools while maintaining analytical data.

Recommend changes, which would make parts more formable.

Recommend press, which is best, suited for part.

Design tooling for compacting, isostatic, extrusion, injection mold, and stamping pressesPrepare dressing department specifications which include volume of green part and green dimensionsExperience with CNC programming and operationAble to engage with internal and external customers in a professional mannerAutomotive supplier experience and/or training preferred
Qualifications:
Mechanical Engineering Degree 3-5 years experience with tool and die engineering processesWorking knowledge of Manufacturing and reportingStrong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Office, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma, Kan Ban, SolidWorksStrong understanding of GD&TFamiliar with ISO 9001Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
