MANUFACTURING CAD ENGINEER

Position Summary The Manufacturing CAD Engineer owns the design side of our manufacturing work: modeling parts, assemblies, tooling, and inspection fixtures, and producing the drawings and data packages the shop and the field actually build from. This role sits between the customer, the machine shop, and the metrology team — translating requirements, prints, and measurement data into designs that are manufacturable, inspectable, and right the first time. Responsibilities Design parts, assemblies, tooling, and fixtures in Autodesk Inventor and Fusion 360, from concept through released drawings. Design holding tools, assembly jigs, and inspection fixtures that support both manufacturing and metrology operations. Produce fully dimensioned manufacturing drawings with correct GD&T per ASME Y14.5, including datum schemes that can actually be measured. Apply design for manufacturability principles — material selection, stock sizes, tool access, work holding, and process sequence — in coordination with machinists and shop leads. Prepare models and data for CAM programming and downstream manufacturing, including model prep, revision control, and file/format management for customer and vendor exchange. Perform tolerance stack-ups and basic design calculations to confirm parts and assemblies will fit and function as intended. Work from customer prints, specifications, sketches, and legacy documentation to develop complete and accurate models. Incorporate metrology data into design work — using measurement results and as-built conditions to modify designs, develop rework plans, and support root cause analysis of fit and tolerance issues. Maintain drawing standards, part numbering, templates, and CAD library content so output is consistent across the engineering team.

Manage engineering changes:

revision tracking, redlines, ECO documentation, and clear communication of changes to the shop and the customer. Support quoting and planning with design effort estimates, material and process recommendations, and early identification of technical risk. Communicate directly with clients on design intent, feasibility, and status, representing the company professionally at all times. Collaborate closely with metrology technicians, machinists, and project managers, and provide technical guidance to junior designers as the team grows. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on design experience in a manufacturing environment. 3+ years of professional CAD experience producing production-released models and drawings. Strong working command of Autodesk Inventor and Fusion 360, including parametric part modeling, large assemblies, and drawing creation. Expert print reading and full working command of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), including datum structures and tolerance stack-up analysis. Practical knowledge of machining, fabrication, and assembly processes, and how design decisions affect cost, lead time, and quality on the floor. Experience designing tooling, fixtures, or jigs for manufacturing or inspection. Familiarity with CAD data exchange formats (STEP, IGES, DXF, native translations) and multi-CAD environments such as CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks a plus. Experience working with scan or measurement data, reverse engineering, or metrology-driven design a plus. Autodesk certification, CSWP/equivalent credentials, or formal GD&T training a plus. Aerospace, marine, military, or other regulated-industry experience a plus. Requirements Must be able to commute to Mount Vernon, WA, or be willing to relocate. Must be a US citizen to apply.
