Overview Sawmill Optimizer Technician Meherrin River Forest Products Position Summary The Sawmill Optimizer Technician maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots computerized scanning and optimization systems used in lumber production. This position works closely with production and maintenance teams to improve lumber recovery, cutting accuracy, equipment reliability, and product quality. Responsibilities Monitor and adjust optimizer settings to meet lumber specifications and production goals. Inspect, clean, align, and calibrate scanners, sensors, cameras, and related components. Troubleshoot scanning errors, inaccurate measurements, communication issues, and equipment faults. Review cutting solutions and production data to identify opportunities to improve lumber yield and reduce waste. Verify that equipment cuts match optimizer recommendations and required dimensions. Assist maintenance personnel with electrical, mechanical, and control-system troubleshooting. Coordinate software updates, repairs, and technical support with equipment vendors. Maintain records of settings, calibrations, repairs, and recurring equipment issues. Train operators on proper system use and reporting procedures. Follow company safety procedures, including lockout/tagout requirements. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in industrial maintenance, electronics, automation, or a related field preferred. Experience with sawmill optimization systems, industrial scanners, or automated manufacturing equipment preferred. Basic understanding of lumber manufacturing, lumber dimensions, and recovery principles. Ability to troubleshoot computer hardware, software, sensors, and equipment communication systems. Familiarity with PLCs, electrical schematics, and industrial controls preferred. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to communicate with operators and maintenance personnel. Ability to work independently and respond to production equipment issues. Work Environment and Physical Requirements Work is performed in a sawmill environment with noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures. Duties may require standing, walking, bending, climbing stairs or platforms, and accessing equipment areas, with or without reasonable accommodation. Pay:

$28.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
