  • $130k and Quarterly & Annual bonus A well established building products manufacturer is hiring a Materials Engineer to lead compound development and process improvement at its Tennessee plant.
You will work across operations, R&D, and suppliers to optimize formulations, solve production problems, and support new product launches. Good fit for an engineer who likes being on the floor as much as in the lab. What you'll do Develop, test, and implement new material compounds to improve productivity, quality, and cost. Use DOE and other analytical methods to assess formulation changes and their impact on production. Run lab work, pilot trials, and production trials to improve product performance and reduce scrap. Build standard work for evaluating and rolling out compounding changes across production platforms. Partner with operations and R&D to solve production issues and support new product development. Work with suppliers on new raw materials, equipment, and industry developments. Support formulation cost analysis and capital planning. What you need Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, or Plastics Engineering (ABET accredited). 3 to 5 years of hands on plastics compounding experience, ideally in rigid or foamed extrusion. Comfortable analyzing data with statistical tools and explaining the results to both engineers and operators. Nice to have Polymer formulation development and extrusion process experience.
Six Sigma tools:
DMAIC, FMEA, Fishbone, 5 Why. Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
