Materials Salesman Goose Materials Richardson, TX Job Details Full-time 1 hour ago Qualifications Customer communication Interpersonal skills Account development High school diploma or GED Associate's degree Civil Engineering Full Job Description Position Overview We are seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Materials Salesman to develop and maintain customer relationships within the construction, asphalt, concrete, and materials-testing industries. This position will be responsible for selling construction materials, asphalt and concrete products, materials testing services, and laboratory services to contractors, developers, municipalities, engineers, and other industry professionals. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of asphalt, concrete, aggregates, construction materials, and quality-control/laboratory testing , along with excellent communication, customer service, and sales skills. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain relationships with asphalt contractors, concrete contractors, general contractors, developers, engineering firms, municipalities, and other construction industry customers. Identify new business opportunities and generate leads through networking, job-site visits, referrals, industry events, and direct sales.
Promote and sell:
Asphalt and asphalt-related materials Ready-mix concrete and concrete materials Aggregates and construction materials Soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete testing services Construction materials laboratory services Quality-control and quality-assurance testing Field inspection and testing services Visit construction projects and customer locations to understand project requirements and identify opportunities for additional services. Prepare estimates, proposals, quotes, and service agreements. Coordinate with laboratory, field-testing, operations, and technical personnel to ensure customer requirements are understood and properly addressed. Follow up on proposals and maintain an active sales pipeline. Monitor upcoming construction projects, bid opportunities, and public/private developments. Maintain accurate customer information, sales activities, opportunities, and forecasts. Develop long-term relationships with existing customers while continuously pursuing new accounts. Communicate project specifications, testing requirements, scheduling needs, and customer expectations to internal teams. Attend pre-construction meetings, contractor meetings, industry events, and networking functions as needed. Stay current with construction materials, testing standards, specifications, and industry developments. Work with management and laboratory personnel to resolve customer concerns and provide appropriate solutions. Meet or exceed established sales and revenue goals. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Business, or a related field is a plus. Previous sales experience in construction, asphalt, concrete, aggregates, engineering, materials testing, or a related industry preferred. Working knowledge of asphalt, concrete, aggregates, soils, or construction materials. Understanding of construction materials testing and laboratory services is highly desirable. Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, project requirements, and testing requirements. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong negotiation, presentation, customer service, and relationship-building skills. Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with laboratory and field personnel. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Willingness to travel to construction sites and customer locations as required. Preferred Technical Knowledge Experience or familiarity with the following is a plus: Asphalt mix testing and quality control Concrete testing and quality control Aggregate testing Soil testing Construction materials inspection Laboratory testing procedures ASTM and AASHTO testing standards TxDOT specifications and requirements Project specifications and quality-assurance requirements Density and compaction testing Concrete sampling and testing Asphalt sampling and testing Construction inspection and field-testing services Key Performance Indicators Success in this position may be measured by: New customer acquisition Sales revenue and gross margin Customer retention Number and value of active opportunities Proposal and quote conversion Growth in laboratory and field-testing services Customer satisfaction Development of long-term contractor and engineering relationships Work Environment This position involves a combination of office, laboratory, customer, and construction-site environments . The employee may regularly visit active construction projects and should be comfortable working around construction equipment, asphalt plants, concrete plants, aggregate facilities, and job sites. The position may require occasional early-morning, evening, or weekend availability depending on project schedules and customer needs. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven construction professional with strong sales ability and technical knowledge of asphalt, concrete, aggregates, and materials testing . The candidate should be comfortable speaking with contractors, project managers, engineers, inspectors, and laboratory personnel and be able to translate technical requirements into practical customer solutions. A strong candidate will combine technical construction knowledge, sales skills, professionalism, responsiveness, and the ability to develop long-term industry relationships .
