Job Description

This Electro-Mechanical Controls Engineer opportunity in St. Helena, CA lets you modernize and support high-precision machinery used for diamond scribing—preserving the existing mechanical design while replacing obsolete custom electronics with reliable, commercially available controls. Qualifications and responsibilities for this Electro-Mechanical Controls Engineer position include: 8+ years of relevant experience integrating or upgrading electromechanical equipment controls. Hands-on knowledge of motion control, motor drives, digital and analog I/O, electrical troubleshooting, and wiring diagrams. Preferred experience with high-precision robotics and repeatable positioning for diamond scribing on features approximately 7-10 microns in size. Preferred experience replacing custom electronics with commercially available industrial controls. Learn machine operation and modernize electronic controls while preserving the existing footprint and mechanical design. Replace custom main, valve, Y-axis, and theta circuit boards with off-the-shelf components. Evaluate motion control modules and integrated motor controls for X/Y axes and compatible solutions for focus and theta motors. Coordinate with the Software Integration Engineer on interfaces, motion commands, I/O signals, testing, and validate the updated controls; document wiring, components, and maintenance procedures.
Salary:
$165,000 - $195,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
