Location US-CT-Groton Seat Location EB Groton Shipyard Trade Engineering Shift 1st Security Clearance Required Secret Overview Waterfront Engineering Backlog Reduction Team has a need for an entry-level engineer in the disciplines of design and construction, with a primary focus in the structural discipline. The Engineering Backlog Reduction team is multi-disciplinary and supports the overall effort for the Waterfront, driving efficiency and reducing the existing backlog of work. The job consists of work split between troubleshooting construction issues in the shipyard and technically evaluating these conditions via calculations and reports in the Groton office. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop a knowledge base in a wide variety of submarine design and construction, including: pressure hull, non-pressure hull, external structures, bulkheads, tanks, component foundations, decking, furniture, lockers and occasional work related to piping, mechanical and electrical disciplines. Support is provided for submarines in construction at the Electric Boat shipyards in Groton and Quonset Point, port s shipyard in Virginia, and various vendors across the United States. Engineers work together in a fast-paced, time sensitive, team environment utilizing their skills in statics, dynamics, strength of materials, material science, and creative problem-solving. Clear communication skills are essential as the candidate will have regular interaction with our customers, both externally (NAVSEA) and internally (shipyard trades in Groton, Quonset Point, and port s). VIRGINIA
Class submarines. The candidate will not be designing the future submarine but will be ensuring the as-built condition of its current war fighter is of the quality standard required to perform its imminent undersea mission. Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Qualifications Required:
A Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering or Aerospace Engineering (Completed by December 2026).
0-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience
Experience or coursework in
Structural Analysis Preferred:
Experience or coursework in Material Science, Welding, Machine Design, Finite Element Analysis Skills Strong teamwork and communication skills in a fast-paced environment.
A desire to work in the shipyard as well as perform analysis when needed.
Practical, hands-on problem-solving mentality.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
