Our client company is the industry's most innovative developer of automated fiber optic inspection and cleaning systems. The company has created, developed, manufactured, and patented automated test equipment for use in Military-Aeronautics, Telecom, and Datacom companies worldwide. We are a small company in a very large market requiring us to continually develop new applications and test equipment for a wide, and ever changing, variety of products and fiber optic connector types. We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our innovative engineering team. In this role, you will support the design, development, and maintenance of mechanical systems and components, ensuring adherence to engineering standards and project timelines. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, proficiency with CAD software, and practical experience in manufacturing and fabrication processes. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects while advancing your technical expertise within a dynamic environment.
Duties:
Assist in the development of mechanical designs using CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ensuring accurate schematics and detailed drawings compliant with ASME codes and GD&T standards. Perform root cause analysis on mechanical failures or inefficiencies to identify underlying issues and recommend corrective actions. Conduct precision measurements utilizing calipers, micrometers, and other precision instruments to verify component dimensions and assembly tolerances. Prepare fabrication drawings and schematics for manufacturing processes including machining, soldering, and equipment assembly. Participate in mechanical design modifications by creating detailed models and assemblies using CAD tools such as SolidWorks. Assist in the fabrication of prototypes or parts through hand tools or machining techniques while adhering to safety standards. Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize machining processes and ensure quality control using precision measuring instruments. Document technical procedures, test results, and calibration data following industry standards such as ASME codes.
Preferred Skills:
Proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, for drafting and 3D modeling. Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles combined with practical knowledge of fabrication and machining processes. Ability to perform root cause analysis on mechanical failures using analytical techniques. Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards for precise engineering drawings. Familiarity with CNC programming, operation, and troubleshooting. Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators. Competence in project scheduling tools to coordinate multiple tasks efficiently. Hands-on experience with welding techniques including soldering and welding safety protocols. Understanding of industry standards including ASME codes & standards for mechanical design and fabrication. Ability to interpret technical schematics and electrical diagrams involving programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Strong math skills essential for calculations related to mechanical design tolerances and system performance. Experience with LabVIEW or similar data acquisition software is a plus. Excellent problem-solving skills combined with effective communication within multidisciplinary teams. This position is integral to advancing our engineering capabilities while fostering professional growth.
