•2:30 PM (Overtime hours available/needed upon request) Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support fabrication, welding, machining, and tool design operations at our heavy equipment production facility in Dubuque, IA. In this role, you will plan, coordinate, and execute manufacturing engineering deliverables supporting structural sheet metal, automated/manual welding, machining cells, and specialized manufacturing tooling. Working closely with shop floor production teams, manufacturing supervisors, and external tooling suppliers, you will design and optimize manufacturing systems, conduct feasibility testing on proposed engineering modifications, and implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, safety, and cycle-time efficiency.
Key Responsibilities Process & Tooling Development:
Analyze production requirements and establish the methods, process steps, machinery, fixtures, and cutting/forming tooling needed to support sheet metal fabrication, welding, and machining lines.
Continuous Improvement:
Design and optimize manufacturing processes, shop floor flow, and work systems to achieve critical safety, cost, quality, and scrap-reduction targets.
Engineering Solutions & Feasibility:
Develop engineering solutions, design structured feasibility testing approaches, and supervise testing implementation to validate proposed manufacturing improvements.
Engineering Standards & Inspection:
Draft, update, and evaluate engineering standards, process specifications, and work instructions; inspect tooling and machinery installations to recommend corrective actions.
Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination:
Serve as a primary technical point of contact to coordinate design, fabrication, and delivery of tooling and equipment with outside vendors and subcontractors.
Change Management:
Identify inefficiencies or shortcomings in existing shop floor procedures and implement permanent corrective solutions through formal change management protocols.
Internal Facility Mobility:
Operate plant utility vehicles (utility gators and industrial scooters) to transport tools, hardware, and diagnostic equipment across factory facilities after completing site safety certification.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline (Equivalent combination of technical training and relevant manufacturing engineering experience will also be evaluated) .
Experience:
2-5+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience supporting machining, sheet metal fabrication, structural welding, or tool/fixture design .
Core Technical Competencies:
Proven capability to develop, implement, test, and refine manufacturing tooling and fabrication processes. Experience drafting and applying technical engineering specifications and manufacturing standards. Strong analytical troubleshooting skills with the ability to interpret complex technical drawings and operational data.
Communication & Collaboration:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to interface effectively with wage shop floor workers, peer engineers, and external vendors.
Safety & PPE:
Must possess and wear Metatarsal safety boots on Day 1, along with required site PPE (safety glasses, earplugs, gloves).

Preferred Qualifications Prior manufacturing engineering experience in heavy equipment, agricultural machinery, or structural industrial products. Practical background coordinating outsourced tooling or fixture development with third-party tool-and-die shops. Knowledge of safe work practices (LOTO, hazard recognition) and structured continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma).
