Sterling Engineering is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer Near Lemont, IL. This opportunity is with a leading manufacturer in the electrical power distribution industry. This role will support New Product Development (NPD) through mechanical component and assembly design, CAD modeling, prototyping, design validation, and engineering release. This is a collaborative opportunity for a self-motivated engineer who enjoys hands-on problem solving and working cross-functionally.
Job Duties:
Create 3D CAD models of components and assemblies for new product development and design problem-solving.
Design and dimension components with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) considerations for molding, machining, and other manufacturing processes.
Develop top-down assemblies, detailed drawings, and dimensioning/tolerance schemes.
Prepare simplified models for 3D-printed prototypes and FEA analysis.
Participate in prototyping and functional testing of new designs.
Support design reviews, validation activities, and the engineering change/release process.
Apply relevant industry standards, including IEEE, NEC, IEC, ANSI, UL, and NEMA, to mechanical design activities.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Development, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Application Engineering, and Aftermarket Support.
Identify and resolve root causes through problem-solving and continuous improvement activities.
Coach and review other team members to support technical development and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related discipline.3+ years of experience in a technical engineering role involving CAD.Creo CAD experience preferred.
Strong experience with mechanical design, CAD modeling, assemblies, drawings, and dimensioning/tolerancing.
Experience with DFM, FMEA, FEA, GD&T, and/or DOE preferred.
Experience with root cause analysis, problem-solving, continuous improvement, or change management preferred.
Experience in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment preferred.
Experience with reliability design tools preferred.
