Job Summary:
We are seeking a versatile engineer who will leverage their knowledge of math, physics and engineering principles to analyze project requirements and design plans that ensure the safety, stability and integrity of Vic's commitment to our clients. Our engineering team is made up of self-starters with strong problem solving and organizational skills who own a project from inception to completion. Your daily work responsibilities will include: Design Create plans and produce drawings and calculation packages for complex crane lift and heavy transport projects using a variety of OEM and CAD software. Design rigging layouts and custom lifting devices to solve unique challenges and meet schedule timelines. Create fabrication drawing packages for procurement and production. Design load testing layouts and assemblies to test and certify rigging and lifting devices to applicable code requirements. Analysis Examine project requirements and make appropriate calculations, considering loads and limiting factors, to safely execute project goals. Evaluate the conditions and limitations surrounding project goals and determine the most effective course of action that satisfies project requirements and supports the service level commitment at Vic's. Calculate the loads and stresses on all elements of engineered plans and consider any structural design change necessary to most effectively meet project goals. Analyze different equipment configurations to determine the most appropriate component builds to execute engineered plans. Apply technical knowledge of codes, regulations and quality standards to meet engineering requirements and expectations. Collaboration Review designs at each project stage with the engineering team to confirm technical and functional adequacy. Provide feedback in a timely manner to junior engineers and our clients. Liaise with other engineers and our clients to improve or agree on safe designs that best meet code and project requirements. Work directly with our fabrication team to optimize the design and manufacturability of custom lifting devices. Visit jobsites to work directly with clients and field crews and see how engineered plans translate to execution Visit job sites, interact with field employees and communicate with clients at all levels within an organization. Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal. To be successful in this role we're looking for individuals who possess: Bachelor's degree in civil or mechanical engineering. 5-10 years of engineering experience, ideally including structural, heavy lift, or transportation engineering. Demonstrated proficiency with design and analysis software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, MathCAD, Revit, RISA, SolidWorks Simulation, or other equivalent CAD tools. A strong foundation in math and physics, and a track record of applying it to real structural problems. Working knowledge of rigging design and applicable codes and standards, such as ASME B30, BTH-1, and AISC. Strong written and verbal communication skills - you'll be explaining complex problems, ideas and solutions to all levels of expertise and experience. Comfort mentoring or reviewing the work of less experienced engineers.
