Position Overview We are partnering with a well-established manufacturing organization in the Greensboro/Piedmont Triad area to identify a Tool Engineer Lead for a critical role within its tooling operation. This is an opportunity for an experienced tooling professional who wants to remain close to the technical work while taking on broader responsibility and influence. The role is designed for someone who can troubleshoot complex tooling issues, develop repair strategies, guide a small team of skilled toolmakers, and step in hands-on when needed. The company is investing in strengthening its internal tooling capabilities and reducing reliance on outside repair resources. This person will play a key role in building that capability, improving tooling reliability, and helping shape how the toolroom operates going forward. What You'll Do Serve as a technical leader within the toolroom, helping diagnose tooling issues and determine the best repair or refurbishment approach. Lead and coordinate the daily work of a small team of experienced Tool Repair professionals. Troubleshoot injection molding tooling issues and drive timely, effective corrective action. Support complex mold repairs, modifications, preventive maintenance, and refurbishment work. Work hands-on with tooling and machining equipment when needed. Help improve toolroom processes, organization, preventive maintenance practices, and overall equipment readiness. Coordinate priorities, assignments, and work between shifts to keep tooling projects moving efficiently. Provide technical guidance, coaching, and development to toolroom employees and apprentices. Review tooling condition and proactively identify opportunities to reduce downtime and improve tool life. Support quoting, outside tooling resources, purchasing, and repair-related supply needs when appropriate. Maintain compliance with applicable ISO, cGMP, FDA, and internal quality procedures. Partner closely with production, engineering, quality, and operations teams to resolve tooling issues quickly and effectively. Key experience includes:

Strong experience in a manufacturing environment, with plastic injection molding experience required . Significant experience in mold making, mold repair, or precision tooling . Ability to independently troubleshoot tooling issues and develop a repair plan. Strong understanding of tight-tolerance machining and toolroom practices. Ability to read blueprints, machine dial gauges, and precision measuring instruments. Hands-on machining capability with equipment such as: CNC mills EDM Lathes Grinders Drill presses Saws Polishing equipment Ability to recognize mechanical or machine-condition changes and diagnose issues before they create larger problems. Strong organizational and prioritization skills. Comfortable working in a player/coach environment where leadership and hands-on technical contribution are equally important. Leadership Experience This is not a traditional desk-based management role. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys being on the floor, solving technical problems, and leading by example. Prior experience as a Tooling Lead, Toolroom Lead, Tooling Supervisor, Tool Engineer, Senior Toolmaker, Mold Maker, or similar position would translate well. Candidates should have demonstrated experience directing work, mentoring others, and helping a skilled team execute against priorities. Education & Background A combination of education, apprenticeship training, and hands-on experience will be considered.

Preferred backgrounds may include:

High School Diploma or GED Trade school or apprenticeship program State Journeyman certification 2- or 4-year technical or engineering degree Comparable hands-on tooling experience The company values demonstrated technical capability over a specific educational path.
