The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on engineering experience and be comfortable taking mechanical systems from initial concepts and requirements through detailed design, prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and final implementation. This position is well suited for an engineer who enjoys working on complex machinery, solving difficult mechanical problems, and collaborating closely with manufacturing and testing teams. Key Responsibilities Lead mechanical design and development activities for complex power-generation machinery and related subsystems. Translate system requirements into practical mechanical designs using engineering fundamentals and first-principles analysis. Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, layouts, drawings, and accurate as-built documentation. Define mechanical interfaces between components and coordinate mechanical, electrical, and fluid-system requirements. Perform engineering analysis related to structural loads, stresses, fatigue, vibration, thermal expansion, pressure, fluid flow, and component performance. Evaluate tolerance stack-ups, material behavior, thermal effects, and operating limitations. Support the design and development of high-speed rotating equipment, dynamic load systems, and high-power thermal-management systems. Work directly with suppliers, fabricators, machinists, and manufacturing partners to ensure designs can be efficiently produced and assembled. Develop prototypes and test fixtures to validate mechanical designs. Create test procedures, identify instrumentation requirements, and participate in hands-on testing and commissioning. Analyze test results, troubleshoot mechanical issues, identify root causes, and implement design improvements. Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate mechanical subsystems into larger systems. Maintain accurate engineering documentation throughout the design-build-test cycle.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience, preferably in complex machinery, industrial equipment, power generation, energy, aerospace, automotive, or similar environments. Demonstrated experience taking mechanical designs from concept through prototype, testing, and production or operational deployment. Strong 3D CAD modeling and mechanical design capabilities. Experience with mechanical and structural engineering analysis. Solid understanding of mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid systems, heat transfer, and machine design. Experience working with rotating machinery, high-load mechanical systems, thermal systems, or other technically complex equipment is highly desirable. Ability to interpret engineering requirements and develop practical, manufacturable solutions. Strong understanding of design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles. Experience working with external vendors, fabricators, and manufacturing teams. Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills. Comfortable working in a hands-on engineering and testing environment. Preferred Experience Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas are strongly preferred: High-speed rotating equipment Turbomachinery or power-generation systems Thermal management and cooling systems High-pressure fluid systems Dynamic mechanical loads Vibration and fatigue analysis Prototype development and rapid design iteration Mechanical test systems and instrumentation Industrial machinery or advanced energy technologies
