Job Description

Position Summary We are seeking an experienced R D Engineer to support the development of analytical instruments for industrial and manufacturing applications. The successful candidate will work hands-on with UV-Vis, NIR, and Raman spectroscopy systems, optical and electronic components, sensors, sampling interfaces, and associated hardware and software. This role involves prototype development, experimental testing, technical troubleshooting, system integration, and new product development. The ideal candidate will possess strong engineering fundamentals, practical laboratory and instrumentation experience, scientific problem-solving skills, and an interest in optical spectroscopy and analytical instrumentation. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, assemble, and test prototype spectroscopy systems, components, and experimental setups. Support the development, evaluation, and improvement of UV-Vis, NIR, and Raman spectroscopy instruments. Evaluate optical, electrical, mechanical, and sensing components for integration into new and existing systems. Design and conduct experiments to assess system performance, emerging technologies, and new product concepts. Develop test procedures and evaluate instrument accuracy, repeatability, stability, reliability, and environmental performance. Perform hands-on troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of hardware, software, instrumentation, and system-level issues. Identify and implement improvements to existing products, components, and system designs. Develop customized spectroscopy solutions for specialized applications. Collaborate with analytical chemists, application scientists, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to translate measurement requirements into practical instrumentation solutions. Integrate hardware, firmware, software, sensors, and sampling components into complete measurement systems. Build and modify test fixtures, prototypes, and laboratory setups as required. Perform verification and validation testing for new and modified products. Support Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), Performance Qualification (PQ), and other system qualification activities when applicable. Apply structured engineering methodologies, including Design of Experiments (DOE), to optimize system performance and evaluate design variables. Assist in transitioning successful prototypes and R D concepts into production-ready products. Maintain accurate engineering documentation, test plans, experimental results, design changes, and technical reports. Ensure compliance with applicable quality procedures and ISO requirements. Provide technical support for complex instrumentation and application-related issues when necessary. Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field. A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in engineering, instrumentation, product development, or research and development is preferred. Hands-on experience developing, testing, troubleshooting, or integrating scientific or industrial instrumentation. Experience with optical systems, spectroscopy, sensors, or analytical instrumentation is strongly preferred. Familiarity with UV-Vis, NIR, and/or Raman spectroscopy is highly desirable. Understanding of electrical, optical, and mechanical system integration. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, schematics, and engineering documentation. Experience with prototype development, verification and validation testing, and root-cause analysis. Strong experimental design, data analysis, and technical problem-solving skills. Experience with Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar engineering and data-analysis tools is desirable. Familiarity with CAD, electronics, data acquisition systems, or instrument-control software is an advantage. Strong hands-on technical aptitude and willingness to work directly with laboratory equipment and prototypes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple technical projects and priorities effectively. Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Additional Requirements Ability to commute to and work on-site at the designated facility in Plainview, New York. Must be authorized to work in the United States.
