Job Description

About the Role We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineering Intern / Co-Op to join our hardware team in designing, prototyping, and scaling long-duration Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) systems. You will work directly on real-world engineering challenges spanning fluid handling, thermal management, structural enclosure, and cell stack assembly.
Key Responsibilities CAD Design & Modeling:
Create and modify 3D CAD models (SolidWorks / Inventor) for cell stacks, piping manifolds, electrolyte storage tanks, and structural frames.
Prototyping & Testing:
Build physical test benches to evaluate pump performance, flow distribution, sealing integrity, and pressure drops across cell stacks.
Component Selection:
Assist in selecting fluidic hardware (valves, pumps, sensors, fittings) compatible with acidic liquid vanadium electrolytes.
DFM & Manufacturing Support:
Collaborate with production engineers to streamline stack assembly processes and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Thermal & FEA Analysis:
Perform basic finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to optimize heat distribution and structural frame integrity. Qualifications Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related discipline. Experience with 3D CAD software ( Fusion 360). Hands-on mechanical experience (shop tools, 3D printing, machining, or hardware testing). Basic understanding of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mechanical design fundamentals. Exposure to chemical compatibility, piping systems, or battery systems is a strong plus.
Pay:
