Role Summary As a Mechanical Machine Designer, you will design custom automation machinery from concept through production — roll handlers, robotic end-of-arm tooling, film handling machines, and other purpose-built equipment. You'll work closely with our fabrication and electrical teams, interface directly with customers, and own your designs through the full build cycle. This is a hands-on, high-impact role in a shop environment where engineering decisions get made and built quickly. Responsibilities Create and maintain detailed 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks Produce complete manufacturing drawings with GD&T, tolerances, and finish callouts Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manage part revisions Collaborate daily with fabrication and electrical/controls teams to ensure designs are buildable and integrated Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from engineering leads and customers Work directly with customers to clarify specifications, iterate on design requirements, and manage design changes Support machine assembly and troubleshoot fit or interference issues on the shop floor Maintain organized design files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle Requirements 3-5 years of mechanical design experience (machine design, industrial automation, or related field) Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D modeling and detailing — required; portfolio or work samples a plus Demonstrated ability to read and create detailed fabrication drawings Experience with custom machines or industrial automation systems preferred Strong communication and collaboration skills — you'll work across engineering, fabrication, and the front office Comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on shop environment where priorities can shift Nice to Have Weldment and sheet metal design experience in SolidWorks Familiarity with motion control, servo drives, or linear actuator selection Exposure to robotic systems (FANUC, KUKA, Universal Robots, or similar) Experience with pneumatic or hydraulic system integration What We Offer Competitive salary starting at $65,000/year, commensurate with experience Health insurance 401(k) retirement plan Paid time off (PTO) A growing company with genuine opportunity for career advancement — we promote from within A collaborative team where your designs go straight from screen to shop floor
