Job Description

Overview Capital Projects | TUBACEX Durant | Durant, Oklahoma About the role Lead capital equipment projects from concept through commissioning and demonstrated production capacity. Projects range from small machines costing $10,000-$40,000 to new production lines exceeding $1 million. Deliver new equipment for added capacity and retrofit existing equipment to improve quality, efficiency, throughput, reliability, and capacity. Serve as the capital projects leader, working alongside our Process Engineer and Manufacturing Engineer. This role reports to and is supported by the Director of Engineering. Combine project execution with mechanical engineering and industrial automation to turn production needs into reliable, fully operational equipment. Our manufacturing environment TUBACEX Durant manufactures seamless stainless steel tubing in Durant, Oklahoma, as part of TUBACEX America and the TUBACEX Group. Our production involves cold working stainless steel, with varied products running simultaneously on parallel equipment. Our machines and processes include cold pilgering, degreasing, heat treatment, cold drawing, and finishing operations. What you will do Own capital projects from needs assessment and concept selection through scope definition, justification, design, procurement, installation, commissioning, capacity validation, and production handover. Develop equipment specifications, layouts, budgets, schedules, and acceptance criteria. Evaluate capacity constraints, technical alternatives, total installed cost, expected benefits, and project risks. Develop and maintain project plans covering scope, tasks, milestones, dependencies, resources, and budgets. Report progress against plan, actual and committed costs, forecast costs to completion, variances, risks, and corrective actions to the Director of Engineering and project stakeholders. Lead suppliers, machine builders, fabricators, controls integrators, and contractors; evaluate proposals, conduct design reviews, manage deliverables and changes, and track cost, schedule, and technical performance. Develop and review mechanical designs using CAD. Apply knowledge of cold working, machine mechanisms, loads, drives, tooling, materials, tolerances, machining, and fabrication to equipment selection and modification. Apply knowledge of machining and fabrication capabilities to design manufacturable prototypes and equipment modifications. Coordinate shop work using complete drawings, specifications, and inspection requirements. Develop, modify, and troubleshoot industrial electrical controls wiring, PLC programs, and HMI applications. Define machine controls requirements for communication and data exchange with SCADA systems, coordinating integration with suppliers and controls specialists. Research manufacturing equipment and process technologies relevant to tube production. Evaluate feasibility, supplier capability, trials, and business value before recommending investment. Plan installation, utilities, equipment interfaces, shutdowns, and startup activities with Production and Maintenance. Address machine safety, maintainability, operator access, and applicable electrical and equipment requirements. Lead factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Resolve mechanical, electrical, automation, and process issues and close outstanding items. Validate sustained capacity and product quality against agreed criteria using representative products, tooling setups, operating conditions, and production runs. Confirm throughput, cycle time, downtime, yield, and bottlenecks rather than relying on nominal machine speed. Complete handover with operating and maintenance instructions, as-built drawings, software backups, spare parts requirements, training, and documented performance results. Support production ramp-up and verify project benefits. How success will be measured Projects achieve agreed scope, budget, schedule, safety, and quality objectives. Equipment reaches verified production capacity under representative conditions, transfers successfully to Operations and Maintenance, and delivers documented benefits. Required qualifications and skills Minimum of 3 years of experience executing manufacturing capital projects from concept through commissioning and capacity validation, with direct responsibility for technical decisions and implementation. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant engineering experience.
