Mechanical Product Design & Development Supervisor :
Engineering Manager Job Description:
The Product Designer will work as part of the engineering team and in support of sales and customer requests to design HVAC and other mechanical and electrical products.
Regular Duties:
(not limited to as other duties may be assigned) Confer with sales, engineering, customers and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products. Support engineering, sales, and production team members as directed. Design a wide variety of products accurately and efficiently using SolidWorks. Search, research, and prepare specifications for the purchase of materials. Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction, installation standards and specifications. Create and enter Bills of Materials into ERP. Create detail and flat pattern drawings. Maintain accurate document control including revisions and archive. Provide support for product assembly. Provide product prototype assistance. Inspect completed products, installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications. Complete accurate take-offs from architectural drawings with a variety of methods. Assist sales to generate Offers to Sell. Interface with internal and external customers. Investigate and test vendors' and competitors' products. Investigate customer or public complaints, determine nature and extent of problem, and recommend remedial measures. Compile data and write reports regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects. Supervise and train team members as necessary or directed.
Work Context:
AirFixture is a fast-paced and customer focused organization that designs and manufactures underfloor HVAC products and systems solutions that are installed in commercial building applications throughout the world. Our team members are in the office, laboratory, and manufacturing plant (in a variety of different conditions), sitting, walking, standing, face-to-face discussions, telephone, heavy computer usage, e-mail, open office environment. Some nights, weekends, and travel may be required. Safety glasses, earplugs, and appropriate head and foot protection as necessary in the lab, plant or in the field. Exposure to fumes and odors from paints and solvents, dust, and noise from the normal operation of machines, limited exposure to hazardous chemicals or oils within the plant.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High School Diploma (or GED), Military, Vocational, Trade School, Engineering related course work with higher degrees in Mechanical or Design Engineering being of value. Highly effective with SolidWorks. Familiarity with AutoCAD. 5 years' experience in product design with HVAC related industry highly preferred. Design experience in sheet metal, steel, aluminum, aluminum castings, and plastic products related to the HVAC industry preferred. Familiarity with motor/fan, water coil sizing and selection. Familiarity with various fabrication/manufacturing methods. Efficient with computer and Microsoft Office programs. Familiarity and efficiency with ERP programs with Microsoft Dynamics GP being highly preferred. Active and effective listening and verbal communications. Critical thinking using logic and reasoning to identify solutions, alternate solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Effective time and project management. Ability to function in a fast-paced, customer driven engineering and manufacturing environment. Being a team player is mandatory, but highly effective when working on one's own.
