This entry-level position is intended for someone interested in developing a long-term career in nondestructive testing (NDT) and industrial inspection. No previous NDT experience is required. Previous experience in an industrial, manufacturing, maintenance, mechanical, construction, or similar environment is preferred, but not required. Training & Career Development The successful candidate will work alongside experienced certified NDT technicians and API inspectors, primarily within the pulp and paper and chemical industries. APS provides paid training and supervised field experience toward Level II qualification and certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), in accordance with the company's written practice. Primary Responsibilities Assist certified NDT technicians and API inspectors during field inspections. Develop proficiency in ultrasonic thickness measurements, magnetic particle testing, and liquid penetrant testing. Assist with equipment setup, calibration checks, surface preparation, and field data collection. Prepare inspection documentation, sketches, photographs, and related field records. Assist with inspections of tanks, pressure vessels, piping systems, and related fixed equipment. Maintain inspection equipment and support safe, organized field operations. Location, Travel & Schedule Local candidates are preferred. This position reports to the APS shop in Wilmington, North Carolina. Applicants should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the Wilmington area or be willing to relocate at their own expense. Relocation assistance or relocation packages are not available for this position. Travel is required. Most travel assignments are overnight or approximately one to two days at a time, with occasional assignments lasting approximately one week. Hotel accommodations and per diem are provided by the company when overnight travel is required. This is a full-time position with the potential for overtime. Minimum Qualifications 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license. Ability to successfully complete required drug screening, background checks, and basic safety classes. Dependable, safety-conscious, willing to learn, and interested in a long-term technical career. Mechanical aptitude and comfort with computers and technical equipment are a plus. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Candidates must be capable of climbing ladders and scaffolding, working at heights, entering confined spaces when properly trained and authorized, working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, standing and walking for extended periods, and lifting and carrying approximately 50 pounds. Work is performed in active industrial environments and requires appropriate personal protective equipment. Compensation & Benefits Compensation is based on relevant experience. Candidates with previous industrial experience or documented NDT training and experience may be considered for higher starting compensation and may be able to progress toward Level II qualification more quickly, subject to applicable requirements and the company's written practice.
