Job Description
Calpine Corporation is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer III to support the reliable, safe, and efficient operation of its natural gas and geothermal power plants. In this senior technical role, you will design, analyze, and optimize plant electrical systems, including high- and medium-voltage equipment, protection, and controls. You will perform system studies, lead troubleshooting and root-cause analyses, and support capital and reliability projects in a fast-paced, data-driven environment. Collaborating closely with operations and maintenance teams, you will ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards while contributing to grid reliability and Calpine's lower-carbon energy mission. Responsibilities Design, analyze, and optimize electrical systems for natural gas and geothermal power plants Support plant reliability and performance through root-cause analysis and corrective actions Develop technical specifications, drawings, and standards for electrical equipment and systems Lead and review protection, control, and grounding designs in accordance with codes and standards Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and project teams to execute capital and reliability projects Perform system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash) and ensure grid interconnection compliance Ensure strict adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements Support commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of high- and medium-voltage equipment Use data and analytics to drive performance improvements and risk mitigation Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives Required Skills Power system design and analysis High- and medium-voltage equipment specification Protection and control systems Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash) SCADA and control systems integration Root-cause failure analysis Auto CAD or similar CAD tools ETAP/SKM or equivalent modeling software Knowledge of
