Job Description
Leidos seeks a Substation Senior Structural Engineer to join our Engineering & Architecture team in the Energy & Utilities sector. In this role, you'll lead structural design and analysis for high-voltage substations, steel structures, and foundations, ensuring safety, reliability, and code compliance. You will prepare calculations, drawings, and specifications; review designs from junior engineers; and coordinate closely with electrical, civil, and project management teams. You'll support proposals, mentor staff, and contribute to standards and tools in a mission-driven, collaborative, and innovation-focused culture. Responsibilities Lead structural design and analysis for high-voltage substation structures and foundations Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, and technical specifications Ensure compliance with ASCE, AISC, ACI, NESC, and utility standards Coordinate designs with electrical, civil, and project management teams Review and seal design packages and calculations as responsible engineer (where licensed) Perform structural assessments, studies, and retrofit/upgrade designs for existing facilities Support project planning, scheduling, estimating, and proposal development Mentor and technically develop junior engineers and designers Implement and improve design tools, standards, and best practices Interface with clients, address technical questions, and support construction/field issues Required Skills Structural analysis and design for substations Steel structure design (lattice and tubular) Concrete foundation design Load calculations for electrical structures (wind, seismic, ice) Finite element analysis (e.g., STAAD, SAP2000, RISA) CAD/BIM tools (Micro Station, Auto CAD, or Revit) Knowledge of
ASCE, AISC, ACI, NESC
codes and standards Substation physical/structural layout and detailing Technical report and specification writing Project coordination and multi-discipline collaboration
