Sullivan Supply, Inc

Product Engineer

Job Description

Company Overview Sullivan Supply is a leader in innovative livestock grooming, showing, and animal care products. For generations, we have worked alongside livestock producers, exhibitors, and families to develop products that make a meaningful difference in the barn and show ring. Innovation is at the heart of what we do. We are looking for a Product Engineer who enjoys turning ideas into real products and wants to play a hands-on role in developing the next generation of Sullivan Supply equipment and solutions. Job Summary The Product Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of Sullivan Supply products. This position will work across the entire product-development process—from identifying customer needs and developing concepts to creating designs, building prototypes, testing products, supporting manufacturing, and bringing finished products to market. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering and problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on mindset. This person should be comfortable working in CAD one day, testing a prototype in the barn or shop the next, and collaborating with manufacturing, sales, customers, and suppliers to improve the final product. Responsibilities Design and develop new products, equipment, components, and product improvements from concept through production. Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, specifications, and supporting technical documentation. Translate ideas and customer needs into practical, manufacturable product designs. Build and evaluate prototypes to validate product concepts, functionality, durability, safety, ergonomics, and performance. Develop and execute product testing procedures and use results to improve designs. Apply sound engineering principles to material selection, component design, structural requirements, mechanisms, manufacturing processes, and product performance. Work directly with Sullivan Supply customers, dealers, sales representatives, and internal teams to identify opportunities for new products and improvements to existing products. Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams and suppliers to ensure products can be produced efficiently, consistently, and at the desired quality level. Identify opportunities to simplify designs, reduce manufacturing costs, improve quality, and increase product durability without sacrificing performance. Troubleshoot product and manufacturing issues and develop practical engineering solutions. Evaluate existing products and recommend design improvements based on customer feedback, warranty information, manufacturing experience, and field performance. Develop bills of materials, product specifications, drawings, and other information necessary to transition products into production. Assist with sourcing components and working with outside manufacturers and suppliers when needed. Support product launches by providing technical knowledge and product information to sales, marketing, manufacturing, and customer-service teams. Stay current on materials, manufacturing technologies, competitive products, and emerging technologies that could create opportunities for Sullivan Supply. Spend time in the field with customers and livestock to understand how products are actually used and identify opportunities others may overlook. Take ownership of projects and drive them from an initial idea through successful commercialization. What we're looking for: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Design, or a related engineering discipline. Strong mechanical design and problem-solving abilities. Experience with 3D CAD software and the ability to develop production-ready drawings and designs. Understanding of common manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, welding, sheet metal, plastics, molding, casting, and assembly. Ability to design products with manufacturability, durability, cost, serviceability, and the end-user experience in mind. Experience developing, building, and testing prototypes. Ability to analyze product failures and solve problems using a structured, practical approach. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, sales, marketing, and operations. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail. Willingness to be hands-on and involved throughout the development process rather than working exclusively behind a computer. Curiosity and a strong desire to create, experiment, improve, and solve problems. The Person We're Looking For We are looking for more than someone who can produce an engineering drawing. We want a builder and problem solver—someone who sees a problem and immediately begins thinking about how it could be solved better. You should enjoy getting close to the customer, understanding how products perform in real-world conditions, building prototypes, testing ideas, learning from failures, and continually improving the design. At Sullivan Supply, great product ideas can come from anywhere: a customer conversation, an employee in the warehouse, an observation at a livestock show, a manufacturing challenge, or an entirely new technology. The Product Engineer will help turn those ideas into products that customers want to use.
