The company's product development areas encompass engine components, technical plastic products and carbon composite components. This position is responsible for designing and developing automotive composite products to meet customer specifications or sales department requests. Working with the engineering team and manufacturing department, the product engineer is responsible for the integration of materials, methods, and tools necessary to bring new products to the market.
Duties/Essential Job Functions:
1. Develop and execute project plans by meeting program deadlines, customer requirements, and successful launch 2. Create and maintain DFMEA and DVP&R 3. Complete dimensional stack-ups 4. Evaluate trade-offs between design options and provide feedback to design engineers 5. Lead engineering technicians, external test labs, and CAE engineers to complete DV and PV 6. Create and maintain BOMs and Process Routings in ERP system like Plex 7. Assist all PPAP activities and ensure the launch process succeeds, including obtaining customer PPAP approval 8. Create RFQ documents and lead component selection 9. Assist with purchasing, supplier selection, and all technical communications with suppliers 10. Provide direction and leadership to other team members to create and manage each aspect of the program, resolve disputes, and assure appropriate resources are utilized efficiently 11. Draft professional product installation instructions for end-use customers. 12. Responsible for sign-off on design and drawings before release 13. Responsible for sign-off on supplier PPAP 14. Support prototype and production builds 15. All other duties, as assigned to support product development and manufacturing Work Environment/Physical Demands
Work is primarily performed in office and manufacturing settings
Steel-toed shoes and safety glasses are required in the manufacturing area
Travel:
Local, domestic, and international travel may be required occasionally Required education:
Bachelor's in Engineering or equivalent
Minimum 2 years of engineering experience required
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently Preferred experience:
Familiarity with GD&T and stack-ups
Knowledgeable in the development of DFMEA, and DVP&R
Familiarity with injection molding, vibration welding, and assembly
Familiarity with carbon composites manufacturing
Hands-on experience with designing, releasing, and manufacturing plastic and carbon composite components
Hands-on machining experience
