About Pacific Performance Engineering Pacific Performance Engineering (PPE) is a leading manufacturer of high-performance automotive aftermarket products engineered to improve the performance, reliability, and durability of modern vehicles. Our product portfolio includes advanced lubrication, cooling, filtration, intake, exhaust, and drivetrain systems for diesel and gasoline applications. We are seeking a Product Development Engineer specializing in lubrication filtration products to join our engineering team. This role will be responsible for the design, development, validation, and testing of next-generation oil and fluid filtration products, from initial concept through production. Position Summary The Product Development Engineer will take ownership of the mechanical design and development of PPE's lubrication filtration product line, including engine oil filters, transmission filters, fuel filters, hydraulic filtration products, and related filtration components. This position will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, testing, quality, sourcing, and marketing teams to develop products that meet PPE's standards for performance, durability, manufacturability, and reliability. The engineer will be involved throughout the entire product development process—from researching applications and defining requirements, to creating CAD models and prototypes, conducting laboratory and vehicle testing, analyzing results, and supporting the product through production and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Product Development Design and develop lubrication filtration products and components. Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, drawings, and engineering specifications. Select appropriate materials, manufacturing processes, coatings, seals, and hardware based on application requirements. Design products for performance, durability, manufacturability, assembly, and cost. Perform tolerance analysis and GD&T as required. Work with suppliers and manufacturers to develop tooling, prototypes, and production components. Work with third-party testing laboratories to coordinate testing, review test reports, and evaluate test data to validate product performance and guide design improvements. Support field testing, product evaluations, warranty investigations, and customer-related technical issues. Work directly with technicians, machinists, manufacturers, and suppliers to produce prototype components. Conduct hands-on assembly, disassembly, inspection, and testing of filtration products. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing, purchasing, sales, marketing, and product support teams. Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical personnel. Provide engineering input for product launches, technical documentation, installation instructions, and marketing materials. Research competing products and emerging technologies within the lubrication and filtration industry. Stay current with automotive lubrication systems, filtration technologies, materials, manufacturing processes, and industry trends. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. 2+ years of mechanical product design and development experience. Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or equivalent. Experience creating detailed engineering drawings and applying GD&T. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, tolerances, and mechanical components. Ability to independently analyze problems, develop solutions, and validate engineering decisions. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability and willingness to perform hands-on work in a laboratory, workshop, and vehicle-testing environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience designing oil filters, transmission filters, fuel filters, hydraulic filters, or other fluid filtration products . Experience with automotive lubrication systems. Experience with pressure, flow, temperature, burst, durability, and environmental testing. Experience with automotive or heavy-duty diesel applications. Familiarity with cast aluminum, stamped steel, machined aluminum/steel, injection molding, die casting, and other automotive manufacturing processes. Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing partners. Familiarity with SAE, ASTM, ISO, and other relevant automotive or filtration standards.
