JOB SUMMARY
The Product Development Engineer develops complex electromechanical systems for heavy industrial applications. This role works with cross-functional teams to define customer and market requirements, develop and test products, manage risk, and bring new products to market efficiently and with minimal rework. The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, and comfortable troubleshooting products, evaluating risks, and balancing quality, cost, manufacturability, and time to market while ensuring safe operation
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates the company's values while supporting our vision and mission to exceed customer expectationsDevelops complex mechanisms and electromechanical systems with robust, precise movement for a variety of applicationsModels concepts and detailed designs using CAD software, with Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks preferredTranslates customer and market requirements into product specifications and formal design documentationCollaborates with cross-functional Product Development Teams to develop products that meet customer requirements while optimizing cost, quality, and time to marketEvaluates design and project risks and uses formal tools such as DFMEA when appropriateDesigns large fabrications with high-tolerance features to support integration with electromechanical mechanismsSizes hydraulic, pneumatic, AC electrical, and DC electrical systems and components as appropriate for the applicationPerforms engineering analysis, including tolerance stack-up, stress, strain, and fatigue analysisGenerates engineering drawings using
ASME Y14.5-2009
standards and effective GD&T practicesWorks proactively with Operations to develop robust, manufacturable designs through Stage Gate product development processesManages multiple projects while maintaining strong organization, communication, and time managementPerforms root cause analysis of quality issues and supports efforts to reduce equipment downtime throughout the product life cycleProvides technical direction and details to the machine designer/drafter team and communicates project status with the program officeWorks directly with customers and end users to understand applications, requirements, and market needsConsiders system and operator safety throughout the design and product development processSupports product testing, demonstrations, verification, validation, and customer on-site testing as neededProvides hands-on troubleshooting and operational support in real-time environments when necessaryProvides customer training on new products when neededGenerates product Bills of Materials and Item Cards in the ERP system, including Syteline, Sage, or IntuitiveApplies sound design-for-manufacturability and lean principles to product development and project workflowsBuilds relationships with key accounts by helping solve product needs and supporting the Sales team with technical solutionsWorks with third-party engineering firms when additional engineering resources are neededConducts formal and informal product and system risk assessmentsMaintains a professional and collaborative approach under pressure and demonstrates reliable attendance and punctualityWorks overtime or additional hours as needed to meet business demandsTravel is less than 10%, primarily domestic, with occasional international travel; a valid passport is requiredOther duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience3-5 years of related engineering or product design experienceProven ability to successfully manage large engineering or product development projects
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong mechanical and electromechanical engineering skillsExperience with product development, risk assessment, and design for manufacturabilityExperience with engineering analysis and tolerance stack-up analysisExperience with finite element analysis or other computational engineering tools preferredStrong verbal, written, and cross-functional communication skillsStrong problem-solving and root cause analysis skillsProficiency with CAD software, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft ProjectFamiliarity with MRP/ERP systems and Bills of MaterialsExperience with Syteline, Sage, Intuitive, or similar ERP systems preferredAbility to work effectively with customers, end users, Operations, Sales, and other cross-functional partners

The employee is regularly required to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds (assistance available), and regularly required to operate and maneuver heavy components with material handling devices. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Office and travel have moderate noise levels. Machine/Product demonstrations and customer visits can have loud noise levels. To meet customer requirements the employee may be asked to travel in an airplane and/or vehicle to get to customer work sites. At times, this position walks on or through high elevations, underground and/or confined spaces, around high voltage and in heavy industrial and/or construction work environments such as bridges, dams, mines, power plants, ship yards, etc. The employee must be able to work in hazardous working environments with possible extreme working conditions to complete customer training and/or applications support. Noise levels may be extreme and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided, and usage is driven by customer requirements. Other required PPE includes, but is not limited to, steel toe boots, hardhat and safety glasses. Customer working environments can be extreme in regards to height, confined space, physical requirements and hazards.
