Full-Time Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Powertrain Development Engineer to support the development, testing, calibration, validation, and integration of advanced gasoline-powered systems. This is a hands-on engineering position for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, analyzing performance data, working with control systems, and supporting projects from initial development through final validation. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering teams, suppliers, and customers while taking ownership of assigned technical activities and helping drive projects toward successful completion. Key Responsibilities Support the development, testing, and optimization of gasoline-powered systems Perform calibration, validation, and system-level testing Evaluate system performance across a variety of operating conditions Analyze test data and identify opportunities for performance improvements Troubleshoot engine performance, drivability, control, and integration issues Support development and refinement of electronic control strategies Assist with integration of powertrain, transmission, steering, and related systems Perform hands-on testing of complete systems and assemblies Investigate technical issues and develop practical engineering solutions Conduct data analysis to support engineering decisions and recommendations Coordinate technical activities with engineering teams, suppliers, and customers Participate in technical reviews and project meetings Communicate project status, technical findings, and recommendations to key stakeholders Maintain documentation of testing, results, engineering changes, and project activities Complete assigned engineering tasks within established timing, quality, and project requirements Support prototype development and production-intent validation Provide technical guidance to junior engineers or technicians as needed Travel periodically to customer, supplier, or testing locations Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline Professional experience in powertrain development, engine development, controls, calibration, testing, validation, or a related engineering field Strong understanding of gasoline internal combustion engine fundamentals Experience working with electronic control or engine management systems Ability to analyze engineering and test data Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities Comfortable working in a hands-on testing and development environment Ability to identify technical problems and develop effective solutions Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, engineers, and other stakeholders Ability to manage multiple technical activities and priorities Comfortable working independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary engineering team Preferred Experience Experience in any of the following areas would be beneficial: Powertrain development Gasoline engine development Engine calibration Powertrain controls Engine management systems Electronic control systems System integration Performance development Vehicle or equipment testing Data acquisition and analysis Validation and verification Prototype development Transmission or drivetrain controls Automotive, marine, powersports, off-highway, industrial, or other powered-equipment applications Additional Information This position is primarily based in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area and combines hands-on engineering, testing, troubleshooting, data analysis, system development, and customer interaction. Some business travel may be required depending on project needs. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; advanced degrees are a plus. Proven experience practicing in an industrial or manufacturing engineering role focused on powertrain or drivetrain systems. Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, and familiarity with 3D CAD modeling for product design. Strong understanding of mechanical knowledge including machine design, mechanical detail drawings, GD&T standards, and tolerance analysis. Experience with simulation tools such as FEA (Finite Element Analysis), MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, or similar platforms. Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Arduino platforms, or system design for automation applications. Familiarity with manufacturing processes including CNC machining and prototyping techniques. Excellent project management skills with the ability to schedule tasks effectively across multiple phases of development. Strong cross-functional communication skills to coordinate between design engineering, manufacturing teams, and suppliers. Knowledge of ASME codes & standards relevant to mechanical component design and testing.
