Full time, on site. Base salary $95,000 to $120,000 per year. Also suits a Mechanical Engineer, Product Design Engineer, Product Development Engineer, or R D Engineer. You will be the mechanical engineering department for a small company group that makes physical products and ships them to customers around the world. You design the product, print the prototypes on our 3D printers, fit the design to the factory that will build it, and see it arrive in customers' hands. More than twenty products are in the pipeline across two brands, so the variety is real and the work is yours to own. Magnet Baron makes custom magnetic assemblies and accessories for hobbyists, sold worldwide from Southlake, Texas. If you paint or play, you will design for a hobby you already know, and your ideas will carry across both brands. Gadget Duke is building a line of innovative, top-notch kitchenware and home goods. The engineer designs for both, working directly with the owner and alongside our in-house electronics engineer. Safety compliance testing is contracted per product. Day one, you step into a project near the end of prototyping and finish it by making it cheaper and easier to manufacture. The standard you design to is that the first production run ships to customers once the factory completes its QC process, and you close the loop on first-article and T1 samples to get there. What a typical week looks like You work in whichever CAD package you are most equipped to do the job in. Two or three products are active at once at different stages: one in CAD, one on the printers, one at a factory awaiting samples. You review tooling quotes, decide what to change and what to approve, and visit factories as needed. What you will do
Own mechanical design for a continuing pipeline of physical products: kitchen tools and containers, magnetic storage and organization, 3D-printing accessories, and hobby products for the wargaming market.
Carry each product from concept through CAD, printed prototypes, testing, and supplier-ready drawings and tolerances.
Design to the processes factories use: injection molding, sheet metal, casting, machining, silicone and rubber molding, and finishing. Fit the design to the factory's own equipment and capabilities so both the factory and the company save time and money.
Read tooling quotes, review first-article and T1 samples, and close the loop on QC.
Lay out mechanisms that survive daily use: hinges, snap fits, latches, seals, gaskets, spinning and cutting assemblies.
Select materials, including food-contact materials where the product needs them.
Write briefs for outside specialists (safety compliance testing, thermal design, tooling houses) and review what comes back.
Set magnet retention and holder geometry for Magnet Baron kits and tools.
Write the definition of done for each product before work starts. What you need
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent shipped-product experience.
About 5 to 8 years of product design experience, with consumer or physical products you personally took to production.
Strong CAD skills in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape, or a comparable package.
Design-for-manufacture judgment: wall thickness, draft, parting lines, tolerance stack-up, and what drives tooling cost.
Prototyping on 3D printers. You slice and print your own test parts.
Work on site in Southlake, Texas, Monday to Friday. Nice to have

3D scanning and turning scan data into models.
Resin printing and silicone casting.
Food-contact materials familiarity.
Regulated-category experience.
