Survey Technician

Job Description

About Field Source Field Source Sports Field Consulting is a specialized owner's representative and sports-facility consulting firm based in central Ohio, focused on helping schools, parks and recreation agencies, universities, and sports organizations "Prepare To Play" on safe, high-performing fields and venues. We blend deep turfgrass and site design expertise with practical construction and maintenance experience, acting as a trusted advocate for our clients from early planning through the last 5% of project closeout. Our culture is hands-on, collaborative, and low-ego: we value curiosity, clear communication, and doing what's right for the field and the people who use it. Position Summary The Survey Technician is responsible for conducting field surveys, collecting and processing geospatial data, and producing draft site files in support of Field Source project teams. This is a hybrid role that combines hands-on fieldwork — topographic surveys, construction layout and staking, and utility/monument/amenity location — with office-based data processing. Projects primarily involve athletic field construction and site development for K-12 school districts, municipalities, parks and recreation agencies, and universities throughout Ohio and the region. Key Responsibilities Field Survey & Data Collection Conduct topographic and boundary surveys for athletic fields, site development, and infrastructure projects. Collect accurate field data using total stations and
GPS/GNSS
equipment (Topcon instruments). Locate and document site utilities, monuments, and site amenities. Perform construction layout and staking for field boundaries, site utilities, and other construction elements. Maintain accurate field notes and ensure data integrity throughout collection. Data Processing & Site File Production Process raw survey data using Topcon MAGNET software suite (includes Office, Field Mobile, 3DMC, and related tools). Produce draft site files, existing conditions plans, and survey base drawings for design and construction use. Work within AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D to prepare and refine survey deliverables. Coordinate with project managers and design staff to ensure data accuracy and completeness. Maintain organized project files and documentation. Field Support Support construction observation by providing as-staked and as-built verification when needed. Operate drone equipment for aerial data collection when licensed to do so (preferred but not required). Travel to project sites throughout Ohio and the surrounding region as needed. Minimum Qualifications 1-2+ years of field survey experience; entry-level candidates with relevant education and hands-on training will be considered. Proficiency with Topcon MAGNET software (Office, Field Mobile, and/or related tools). Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D. Demonstrated experience with construction layout and staking — including field/boundary layout, site utilities, and monument/amenity location. Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy. Preferred Qualifications FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (drone pilot's license). Experience with drone-based data collection and photogrammetry or point cloud processing. Familiarity with Trimble Business Center or other survey data processing platforms. Background in athletic field, parks, or site development projects. Familiarity with stormwater, grading, and site utility systems.
