Core Responsibilities Field Measurements:
Operate tools like robotic total stations, GPS receivers, and levels to gather terrain data.
Construction Staking:
Set out stakes, flags, and marks to guide excavation, foundations, and utility installations.
Data Processing:
Enter field notes and measurements into computers for analysis by licensed surveyors.
Blueprint Reading:
Study civil and architectural drawings to verify planned layout dimensions.
Site Research:
Look up historical deeds, property corners, and boundary records.
Education:
A high school diploma or GED is standard for entry-level roles. High school math classes like algebra, geometry, and trigonometry are very helpful.
Licenses:
A valid driver's license is usually required to drive to different work sites.
Skills:
Comfort with basic computers and a willingness to learn field instruments.
