Construction Surveyor / Grade Control Technician Brooke Paving is hiring an experienced Construction Surveyor / Grade Control Technician to support our roadway, paving, earthwork, and site construction projects. We are looking for someone who can take a project from the beginning, establish and verify control, perform construction layout, check grades and elevations, and support our field crews and equipment operators throughout the life of the project. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Trimble surveying and grade control systems and be comfortable working independently in the field. Responsibilities Set up new construction projects from the beginning using project plans, survey data, and control information Locate, verify, and establish horizontal and vertical control points Check and verify benchmarks, elevations, grades, slopes, offsets, and coordinates Perform construction staking and layout for roadway, paving, earthwork, utilities, drainage, and other site work Verify existing ground elevations and completed work Perform grade checks for: Subgrade Base Asphalt Concrete Drainage Excavation and embankment Calculate and verify cuts and fills Identify potential discrepancies between plans, existing conditions, and field elevations Maintain accurate survey records and field information Trimble & Survey Equipment Applicants should have hands-on experience using Trimble equipment and software , including:
GNSS / GPS
rover systems Base stations Robotic Total Stations Data collectors Construction layout equipment Trimble survey and grade-control technology Experience with Trimble Business Center (TBC) or similar software is highly preferred. Machine Grade Control A major part of this position will be supporting our equipment that uses machine grade control.
Responsibilities may include:
Set up construction equipment with Trimble machine grade-control systems Load project files, surfaces, alignments, and design information into machines Verify machine GPS and grade-control accuracy Calibrate and troubleshoot grade-control systems Establish or verify base station communication with equipment Confirm machines are working from the correct project, control, and surface Assist operators with grade-control issues in the field Check machine-produced grades against survey information Work with dozers, motor graders, excavators, milling equipment, and other grade-controlled equipment Qualifications Previous experience as a Construction Surveyor, Field Surveyor, Grade Checker, or Grade Control Technician Strong construction surveying background Experience with Trimble
GPS/GNSS
equipment required Experience using a Robotic Total Station Experience setting up and operating a GPS base station Ability to establish and verify project control Ability to read and understand civil construction plans Strong understanding of grades, elevations, slopes, coordinates, and construction layout Experience with machine grade control strongly preferred Ability to work independently and make accurate field decisions Strong attention to detail Valid driver's license Willing to travel and work out of town when projects require it Preferred Experience Experience in any of the following is highly desirable: Road construction Asphalt paving Dirt work Earthwork Fine grading Site work Utilities Drainage Machine control Trimble Business Center GPS machine control What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who can do more than simply stake points. We need someone who understands construction from the survey side and can help our crews get a project set up correctly, maintain accurate control throughout the job, verify grades and elevations, and make sure our GPS and machine-control equipment is working from the correct information. The right person should be comfortable going into the field, reviewing the plans, locating or establishing control, setting up a base station, using a rover or robotic total station, and working directly with our operators and supervisors to keep the job on grade.
