Job Description

Project Surveyor

Department:

Halifax Survey

Location:

Halifax, VA Hurt & Proffitt is seeking an experienced Project Surveyor to join our growing surveying team in Halifax, Virginia. This position will be responsible for managing and performing a variety of land surveying projects from initial fieldwork through final deliverables. The Project Surveyor will work closely with project managers, survey crews, engineers, clients, and other members of the project team to ensure projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and within established schedules and budgets. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated survey professional looking to take the next step in their career and play an important role in the successful delivery of surveying projects. Responsibilities Manage and perform land surveying projects including boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction, and other types of surveys.

Plan and coordinate survey fieldwork and office production activities.

Review project requirements, existing records, deeds, plats, and other available survey information.

Coordinate with field crews to ensure accurate and complete collection of survey data.

Review and process field data using surveying and CAD software.

Prepare and review boundary surveys, plats, easement exhibits, topographic maps, and other survey deliverables.

Perform calculations and analysis necessary to establish property boundaries and prepare survey documents.

Conduct research of public records, deeds, plats, easements, and other property information.

Communicate with clients, project managers, engineers, contractors, and other professionals regarding project requirements and progress.

Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.

Provide technical guidance and support to survey technicians and field crews.

Review completed survey work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.

Assist with preparation of proposals, scopes of work, and project estimates.

Maintain organized project files and documentation.

Ensure surveying work is performed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards.

Participate in fieldwork as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

Several years of progressive land surveying experience.

Strong knowledge of surveying principles, practices, and procedures.

Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.

Experience working with

GPS/GNSS

equipment, total stations, data collectors, and other modern surveying equipment.

Strong understanding of boundary research, calculations, and property descriptions.

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet established deadlines.

Preferred:

Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in Virginia.

Experience with

ALTA/NSPS

Land Title Surveys.

Experience with construction surveying and staking.

Experience with survey equipment and software.

Experience supervising or mentoring survey technicians and field crews.

Experience preparing proposals, budgets, and project schedules. Skills & Competencies Strong technical knowledge and professional judgment.

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Ability to independently manage projects and prioritize competing deadlines.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients and coworkers.

Ability to troubleshoot technical and project-related issues.

Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

Commitment to quality and professional development. Work Environment & Physical Requirements This position involves both office and limited fieldwork. Office responsibilities include working with computers, CAD software, surveying software, phones, printers, plotters, scanners, and other standard office equipment.

Fieldwork may require:

Standing and walking for extended periods.

Bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying surveying equipment.

Walking and working on uneven or rough terrain.

Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Occasional travel to project sites throughout the region. Schedule Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexibility may be required to accommodate project schedules, fieldwork, client needs, and other business requirements.

Estimated Base Pay Range:

$30 - $32 per hour.

Final compensation within this range is determined in good faith and is based on objective factors. These include the candidate's specialized skills, level of experience, geographic location, and specific educational background or certifications.

This position will be eligible for 401(k) matching and ownership through our ESOP and may also be eligible for incentive pay subject to company performance and performance-based raises.
