Job Description - Roadway Designer (2602563) Job Description Roadway Designer - ( 2602563 ) Position Information TxDOT's Brazoria Area Office is looking for a Transportation Engineer Specialist I, II, or III based in Angleton, TX. You will have the opportunity to be part of a team that plans, designs, and improves the roadway infrastructure in our community. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Transportation Engineer Spec II Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques; trains and reviews the work of others. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Transportation Engineer Spec III Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques; trains and reviews the work of others; others. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. May serve as lead worker. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer Spec I Performs advanced and specialized design work. Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features. Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps. Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications. Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal lighting design, retaining walls and building design. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Engineer Spec II Includes all essential duties listed for Transportation Engineer Spec I as well as: Trains less experienced technicians. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Engineer Spec III Includes all essential duties listed for Transportation Engineer Spec I and II as well as: Reviews work done by others for drafting and calculation errors. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience :
6 years drafting, design, plan preparation. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for
Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certifications :
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Transportation Engineer Spec II Education :
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience :
7 years drafting, design, plan preparation. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
