Service Squared is growing, and we're adding a Staff Accountant to our Cupertino team. We provide outsourced accounting, payroll, compliance and financial services to growing businesses across the service industry. Our clients span restaurants, retail, wellness, healthcare and other multi-location service businesses. This gives our accountants exposure to a breadth of operations and financial knowledge that is difficult to get working inside a single company. This is not a role where you'll spend every day doing the same thing for the same business. You'll work with multiple clients, learn different business models, take meaningful ownership of their accounting, and build the kind of hands-on experience that creates strong accountants. What You'll Do As a Staff Accountant, you'll work with an Accounting Manager and a broader team of accounting professionals to support a portfolio of S2 clients.

You'll:

Prepare journal entries, accruals and other month-end entries Perform bank, cash, credit card and general ledger reconciliations Participate in the monthly close process and help ensure client financials are accurate and delivered on time Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets Manage accounts payable activities, including invoice processing, coding, payment support and vendor reconciliations Research and resolve discrepancies rather than simply passing them along Maintain supporting schedules and documentation Assist with 1099 preparation and year-end accounting activities Prepare recurring and ad hoc client reports Support financial and regulatory audits Identify opportunities to make accounting processes faster, smarter and more accurate Help strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures Use AI as part of your everyday workflow to research, analyze, troubleshoot, communicate and improve how work gets done Collaborate with Accounting Managers and other S2 teams to solve client issues and keep work moving What We're Looking For You don't need to know everything on day one. You do need a solid accounting foundation, curiosity, good judgment and a willingness to take ownership of your work. Ideally, you'll bring: 1-5 years of professional accounting experience Working knowledge of general ledger accounting and the month-end close process Experience with accounts payable, cash activity and bank reconciliations A solid understanding of GAAP and fundamental accounting principles Strong Excel skills Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Clear, professional communication skills A willingness to ask questions, solve problems and keep learning An AI-forward mindset. You should already be using AI tools, or be genuinely excited to make them a meaningful part of how you work. At S2, AI isn't an experiment or an occasional shortcut. It's part of our everyday workflow. Experience with restaurant, retail, franchise, multi-unit or other service-industry accounting is a plus, but it is not required.
