Job Description
A well-established manufacturing company in North County San Diego is adding a Cost Accountant to its finance team. This position is ideal for someone who understands that manufacturing accounting goes beyond the general ledger — you need to understand materials, labor, production, inventory, overhead, and margins.
You'll work directly with accounting, operations, purchasing, and production teams to ensure the company's costs are accurately captured and reported.
Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain and analyze standard and actual product costsReview material, labor, and manufacturing overhead costsPerform inventory reconciliations and investigate variancesAnalyze production costs and identify unusual fluctuationsPrepare monthly cost and inventory reportsAssist with standard cost updates and annual cost reviewsCalculate and analyze manufacturing variancesReview bills of materials and production-related financial dataPartner with operations to understand production efficiencies and cost driversAssist with month-end close, including inventory and cost-related journal entriesSupport physical inventory counts and cycle-count analysisAnalyze gross margin by product, customer, or product lineAssist with budgeting and forecasting related to production costsHelp improve costing procedures, reporting, and internal controlsProvide financial information to management to support pricing and operational decisions
