Our Core Values are:
Team-Oriented, Growth-Oriented, Focused on Professionalism, Humbly Confident, and Do the Right Thing. We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and analytical Accountant to take ownership of our day-to-day accounting operations while supporting the financial and administrative functions of our agency. This is an excellent opportunity for a capable accounting professional who enjoys working independently, solving problems, and contributing to the financial success of an established organization.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, you will manage the agency's accounting cycle, maintain accurate financial records, and support payroll, benefits, and administrative operations. Reconcile bank accounts, agency commissions, carrier transactions, and other financial activity. Prepare journal entries, complete month-end closing procedures, and prepare monthly financial statements for management review. Analyze financial data, investigate discrepancies, identify trends, and recommend improvements to accounting processes and internal controls. Process employee payroll, including timekeeping review, payroll reconciliation, journal entries, and 401(k) contributions. Assist with employee benefits administration, enrollments, renewals, and related documentation. Provide backup support for HR administrative functions, including onboarding, employee records, and personnel-related processes. Assist the Director of Operations with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis. Coordinate with outside accountants regarding tax preparation and other financial requirements. Maintain organized, accurate, and confidential financial and employee records.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED 3-5
years of accounting or full-cycle bookkeeping experience , including general ledger responsibilities and month-end closing. Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements and performing account reconciliations. Strong understanding of accounting principles, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the initiative to investigate discrepancies and identify underlying issues. Excellent organization, attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines. Sound judgment, professional communication skills, and a commitment to confidentiality. A collaborative, team-oriented approach and willingness to learn and grow. Accounting or Finance degree preferred; equivalent professional experience considered.
A Plus, But Not Required:
Insurance agency accounting experience. Experience with Applied Epic, Paychex, or similar systems. Experience processing payroll and administering employee benefits. Familiarity with HR administrative functions.
WHAT WE OFFER
Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long-term disability coverage. 401(k) retirement plan. Generous paid time off and paid holidays, including your birthday! Continuing education and professional development opportunities. Opportunity to expand responsibilities and grow professionally as demonstrated capabilities and agency needs evolve. A collaborative, team-oriented workplace in historic downtown St. Augustine.
THE RIGHT FIT
We are looking for more than someone who simply processes transactions. The ideal candidate takes pride in accuracy, recognizes when something doesn't look right, and has the curiosity and initiative to investigate, understand, and resolve issues. You should be comfortable managing the daily details of accounting while also seeing the bigger picture and identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting. This position offers meaningful responsibility from the start, along with the opportunity to develop additional accounting and financial management skills over time. If you are a dependable, analytical accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership of your work and contributing to a successful team, we welcome your application!
