Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join a municipal finance team. This role supports core government accounting operations, contributes to the annual budget and audit process, and helps maintain accurate financial reporting across multiple functions. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, sound knowledge of accounting principles, and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, departments, and the public in a detail-oriented environment.

Responsibilities:

• Partner with finance leadership to develop and support the annual municipal budget, including gathering data, reviewing figures, and assisting with budget-related analysis.
• Prepare financial schedules, reports, and supporting documentation needed for the yearly external audit and other reporting obligations.
• Reconcile bank accounts on a regular basis and investigate discrepancies to ensure timely and accurate resolution.
• Review general ledger activity, post and assess journal entries, and help maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
• Provide day-to-day guidance to finance team members involved in accounts payable and cash receipts while helping maintain efficient workflows.
• Work across accounting processes such as payroll, accounts payable, cash receipts, utility billing, and general ledger functions using financial software systems.
• Analyze accounting records and financial data to identify trends, support decision-making, and recommend operational improvements.
• Deliver responsive service to internal departments, outside agencies, and community members while upholding ethical standards and effective communication.
• Support compliance with municipal policies, administrative procedures, and established financial controls while managing deadlines with limited supervision.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
• Working knowledge of accounting practices, financial reporting, and governmental fund accounting principles.
• Experience with month-end close activities, general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet overlapping deadlines.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, along with the professionalism to work well with diverse stakeholders.
• Analytical mindset and sound judgment when reviewing financial information and resolving issues.
• All candidates are required to undergo screening; payroll experience is preferred but not required.
