Job Description

Roberr Half is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a mission-driven nonprofit organization in the western suburbs. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate accounting records, assisting with financial reporting, and helping ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting practices. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance teams.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily accounting activity by recording transactions accurately and keeping financial records current and organized.
  • Reconcile key accounts, including cash, receivables, payables, and general ledger balances, to support a reliable month-end close process.
  • Help prepare periodic financial statements and supporting reports for leadership, board members, and other external audiences.
  • Contribute to the development of annual and departmental budgets by compiling data, reviewing figures, and assisting with planning needs.
  • Monitor grant activity, donor funding, and restricted versus unrestricted resources to ensure proper classification, usage, and reporting.
  • Provide audit support by assembling schedules, organizing documentation, and responding to information requests from external auditors.
  • Assist with the preparation of required tax filings and regulatory submissions, including annual nonprofit reporting documents.
  • Partner with program and fundraising teams to track the financial impact of grants, contributions, and special events while promoting policy compliance.
  • Strengthen adherence to internal controls, financial procedures, and established accounting standards across day-to-day operations.
This role offers a salary range of $60,000-$70,000 and comes with a full benefits package including:
