We invite you to come work with us, where your contributions are valued, your voice is heard, and your career is forged with purpose Position Summary The Senior Mill Accountant is responsible for managing the plant accounting function and leading the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with company policies and procedures. This role oversees monthly close activities, inventory accounting, financial analysis, internal controls, and staff development while partnering closely with the Mill Controller and plant leadership team. Reporting Structure Reports directly to the Mill Controller Directly supervises four Accounting Clerks Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting Five to ten years of progressive accounting experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably in a plant setting Experience managing accounting functions and staff Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills Key Responsibilities Accounting Operations & Team Leadership Supervise and develop plant accounting staff Establish and maintain procedures for account reconciliations and account analysis Review general ledger activity to ensure compliance with internal controls Review account reconciliations prepared by accounting staff Oversee inventory accounting and inventory control processes Manage the plant accounts payable function Monitor operating statistics such as production rates, yields, cost per ton, material usage, and labor hours Provide ongoing training, coaching, and development opportunities for accounting team members Serve as a key resource for financial systems training and process improvement initiatives Month-End Close & Financial Reporting Lead and coordinate the monthly financial close process Review and approve general ledger entries Maintain and update standard accruals Manage journal entry allocations Act as a liaison between plant operations, plant accounting, and corporate accounting during close activities Maintain fixed asset records and coordinate with corporate tax teams Track and account for capital projects and construction-in-progress (CIP) activity Ensure timely capitalization and accurate reporting of capital expenditures Partner with engineering and operations teams to analyze capital spending and budget variances Financial Analysis & Plant Support Maintain accurate and timely accounting records and reporting Assist in monthly cost reporting and production cost analysis Support plant leadership with cost reduction initiatives and financial decision-making Assist in preparing annual budgets, business plans, and rolling forecasts Support office administration, equipment purchases, vendor relationships, and related activities Assist in developing, documenting, and maintaining internal controls to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance Environmental, Health & Safety Commitment Employees are expected to perform all responsibilities in compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
