Position Summary LSLCA is seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager to take ownership of the Association's day-to-day accounting operations and help strengthen and improve its overall financial processes. This is a working accounting position. The successful candidate will be directly involved in the accounting function and will be responsible for ensuring that financial transactions are accurately recorded, accounts are reconciled, financial reports are reliable, and accounting processes are efficient and well controlled. The position will oversee general ledger accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, reconciliations, cash management, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation. The position will also work closely with the General Manager, management team, Board of Directors, external accountants, auditors, and other financial professionals. LSLCA uses Northstar for accounting and membership management, with financial reporting and analysis integrated with Microsoft Excel. Several existing accounting processes need to be evaluated, restructured, documented, and automated. The ideal candidate will be a problem solver who can look at an existing process, identify what is working and what is not, and implement practical improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, and accountability. This is an opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to take meaningful ownership of the financial operations of a complex community association with approximately 4,000 members and significant operating and capital assets. Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting Operations Take ownership of the Association's day-to-day accounting operations and maintain accurate and complete financial records. Manage and perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and month-end close activities. Oversee and perform accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. Process and/or oversee payroll and related accounting activities. Perform regular bank, credit card, balance sheet, and other account reconciliations. Research discrepancies, identify the underlying cause, and make or recommend appropriate corrections. Ensure transactions are properly recorded using generally accepted accounting principles and sound double-entry bookkeeping practices. Maintain accurate supporting documentation for financial transactions and account balances. Financial Reporting & Analysis Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements and management reports. Prepare account analyses, variance reports, and other financial information for management and the Board of Directors. Monitor budget-to-actual results and identify significant variances, trends, or areas requiring management attention. Provide clear explanations of financial information and accounting issues to individuals who may not have an accounting background. Assist management with financial analysis and information needed to make operational and financial decisions. Budgeting & Planning Assist with the preparation and ongoing monitoring of the annual operating and capital budgets. Support forecasting and long-term financial planning. Track capital expenditures and assist with financial reporting related to major community projects and assets. Work with management to improve the accuracy, usefulness, and timeliness of budget reporting. Process Improvement & Internal Controls Evaluate existing accounting processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, accountability, and internal controls. Restructure and document accounting workflows where needed. Identify opportunities to automate repetitive manual processes and reduce unnecessary work. Establish and maintain practical internal controls for cash management, financial transactions, reconciliations, and recordkeeping. Use technology, including AI tools where appropriate, to improve accounting, reporting, data analysis, and workflow efficiency. Develop procedures and documentation that make financial processes easier to understand, execute, and maintain. Take initiative in identifying problems rather than simply reporting them, and develop practical solutions. Audit & External Financial Relationships Coordinate the Association's annual audit and provide auditors with accurate schedules, documentation, and supporting information. Work with external accountants and financial professionals as needed. Assist with required financial and regulatory reporting. Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation for audit and compliance purposes. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with the General Manager and management team on financial matters. Provide accurate and understandable financial information to the Board of Directors and appropriate committees. Collaborate with staff across the Association to resolve accounting issues and improve financial processes. Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, member, and other sensitive information. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field preferred. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible accounting experience. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, debits and credits, account reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management. Demonstrated experience preparing and analyzing financial statements and management reports. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Ability to learn and effectively use Northstar or similar accounting and membership management software. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Demonstrated ability to identify discrepancies, investigate problems, and implement practical solutions. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate financial information clearly and professionally to management, Board members, staff, auditors, and outside professionals. Experience with a nonprofit organization, community association, property management organization, governmental entity, or similarly complex organization is highly desirable. Experience restructuring, documenting, automating, or improving accounting processes is highly desirable. Familiarity with AI tools and their practical application to accounting, reporting, data analysis, or workflow automation is a plus. Work Location Hybrid:
Three days per week on-site at the LSLCA office in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, with some flexibility for remote work based on operational needs.
