Senior Accountant TPSGUSA Blauvelt, NY Job Details Full-time $80,000 - $90,000 a year 5 hours ago Qualifications Accounting systems Microsoft Excel ADP Research Bachelor's degree Payroll reconciliation Bachelor's degree in accounting Time & attendance systems Full Job Description Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant is a mid-level role split evenly between payroll support and core accounting/month-end close responsibilities, with real room to grow as the finance team continues to build out. This position backfills a role previously held by an Accounts Payable Supervisor who was promoted internally, and the organization is using the opening to elevate the role's scope and level of responsibility. The Senior Accountant will serve as primary backup to the Payroll Manager and will take on full-cycle accounting work, including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close support, while also assisting with accounting for an affiliated fundraising entity.
Key responsibilities include:
Serve as primary backup to the Payroll Manager, processing payroll through ADP when needed and assisting with payroll data review, employee changes, time and attendance, deductions, and related transactions
Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, ensuring corrections are processed timely
Maintain strict confidentiality of employee payroll and compensation information
Oversee full-cycle accounting for an affiliated fundraising entity, including fundraising-event accounting and donation tracking
Ensure the accuracy and timely completion of accounting activities for the organization and its affiliated entities, including proposing journal entries and performing detailed balance sheet reconciliations (this is real reconciliation work, not simply pulling a general ledger)
Assist the Controller with variance analysis and discrepancy investigation
Support month-end and year-end close processes, meeting all established closing deadlines
Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for the annual financial audit
Contribute to process-improvement initiatives that enhance accuracy and efficiency across the accounting function Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting required, with a minimum of five years of general accounting experience including balance sheet reconciliations, discrepancy investigation, and accounting analysis; solid working knowledge of debits and credits and bank reconciliations (receipts and disbursements); payroll processing experience required, with ADP experience strongly preferred; non-profit accounting experience preferred; advanced Excel skills; familiarity with general ledger software required, Sage Intacct strongly preferred; strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills; and the ability to work effectively and sensitively with a diverse service population.
