Job Description

Hourly range from $26.00 - $31.00 based on experience Mountain Lake Academy is an experience-based program that works with 36 students in grades 7-12 at a year-round boarding school located in the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. Expect:
As the Accountant , you will be an essential part of the finance team, supporting the CFO and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the Academy's financial operations. You'll be responsible for managing daily accounting functions, overseeing payroll and benefits billing, tracking grant funding, and supporting compliance and audit processes. This role is ideal for someone who values precision, thrives in a collaborative environment, and wants to make a meaningful impact in the nonprofit education sector.
Your Skills & Experience:
Track, analyze, and manage financial data to ensure accuracy and compliance. Manage accounts payable and receivable, vendor invoices, and outstanding balances. Process payroll and employee benefits accurately and on time. Perform general ledger analysis, reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting. Reconcile credit card statements and maintain accurate documentation. Monitor grant funding and reporting requirements. Support year-end audit preparation and assist with required documentation. Communicate effectively with staff and departments to support financial operations. Manage time efficiently, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to all state and federal regulations. Participate in professional development opportunities and support MLA's mission and values.
What You'll Need:
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Strong proficiency in accounting principles and systems, including FundEZ, Paylocity, Google and Microsoft Excel. Experience with grant funding, government reporting, nonprofit accounting, and audit preparation preferred. Familiarity with OCFS, SED, and NYS compliance requirements. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Background check compliant with the New York State Justice Center and OCFS regulations Valid New York State driver's license
